Dunkaroos Canada 2020 Relaunch Isn't Happening & You'll Have To Cross The Border To Get Them

By now you've probably heard all the hype about an iconic '90s snack coming back this year. However, there will be some obstacles for Canadians who want to get their hands on the treats. A Dunkaroos Canada 2020 relaunch isn't happening and that means you'll have to go to the U.S. to get them.

Dunkaroos are making a comeback and many snack lovers are rejoicing. However, it's not good news for everyone.

Ever since it was announced on February 3 that the sweet treats would once again be available on store shelves, people have been left wondering if they'll come back to Canada too.

Unfortunately, Canadians will have to go south of the border if they want to buy some.

In a statement to Narcity, a spokesperson for General Mills said that at this time there are no "plans to relaunch Dunkaroos in Canada."

Despite it being available here in Canada long after it was discontinued in the U.S., you'll have to plan a trip across the border to stock up and satisfy your after-school snack craving.

When the treats start hitting store shelves in the U.S. in summer 2020, they'll be available in the most requested flavour, vanilla cookies and vanilla frosting with rainbow sprinkles.

Rumours about them coming back started when Dunkaroos mysteriously joined social media at the end of January and posted a cryptic photo on Instagram.

"We're thrilled to relaunch Dunkaroos in the U.S. after years of it only being available in Canada," said Jeff Caswell, president of Snacks at General Mills, in a blog post about the relaunch. "We know there’s a lot of love for Dunkaroos, and fans everywhere have been asking for it."

The treats had been around since the '90s but most of the production in the U.S. ended in 2012 while it lasted north of the border until 2018.

Since the snacks were available in Canada for years after they left the U.S., General Mills actually started a Smugglaroos campaign that encouraged Canadians to bring the treats to their neighbours across the border.

With the cookie comeback in the U.S., maybe the campaign will be revived as well but have people bring it up north this time.

That being said, it hasn't been completely ruled out that the snacks could one day return to Canada, there are just no plans at this time.

However, if your '90s nostalgia is really strong, a trip across the border might be your best bet at getting your Dunkaroos fix.
