Big old sandwiches have always held a special place in our hearts. All the things you love served between the thing you love most: bread. What a concept. Thankfully, Grumans Catering and Delicatessen is offering up humongous Calgary sandwich towers this month and they can be totally free on one condition.

If you can down your own sandwich tower in under 18 minutes, then you don't have to pay a cent.

This contest is set to go on for the month of March 2020, so you can begin prepping for that big meal anytime now.

The sandwich tower is named Big Zaidy 2.0, which in the Hebrew is known as the Big Grandfather. It costs $30 if you don't manage to get it down fast enough.

That's already a pretty fair deal on its own, so you can sign us up.

Narcity spoke to the deli's owner, Peter Fraiberg, who gave us the scoop on what we can expect from this epic sandwich.

The Big Zaidy 2.0 consists of a Reuben sandwich, a Flatbush sandwich, a grilled salami sandwich, a potato pancake, a deep-fried pickle, and half of their "award-winning kosher hotdog." It also comes with a side of smoked-meat poutine.

Just take a look at the photos from their official Instagram account and tell us you're not drooling. Calgary sure is a goldmine for wacky, irresistible dishes

We all have a thing for big portions of food, but you have to be a complete champion to destroy this mountain this quick.

Proceeds from this contest will also be going to a charity.

According to Fraiberg, the contest was held for the first time last year. The sandwiches were killing it last year but they weren't big enough and people got way too much time to munch them down.

So this year, they've fine-tuned the dish a little and it's bigger and better than anyone could've ever imagined.

If you're successful at the end of this challenge, you'll be going home with both a full stomach and a full wallet

Grumans is known for serving up Jewish-style dishes, so if you're in the mood for knishes, latkes, beef brisket, cabbage rolls, or fine smoked meat, you know exactly where to go.

Their website has all the menus you could possibly need, whether you want quick deli meals, catering, or take-out options.

Fraiberg also tells us that the time limit of 18 minutes to eat the sandwich is special as well. 18 means 'life' in the Jewish tradition, which is appropriate because this sandwich will probably make your life.
