Ditch the ketchup and bring on the seaweed. This mouthwatering street food is the perfect mashup between Japanese and the classic hot dog. You've never been to the city until you've had a Japadog in Vancouver.

As the name implies, Japadog specializes in hot dogs that provide a taste of Japan. They sell 19 savoury specialty options smothered in all sorts of unusual toppings like tempura shrimps, fried mashed potato croquettes, and noodles.

With so many tasty options to pick from, it might be hard to decide what to eat first. But these budget-friendly bites are so cheap; you can easily afford to try a few.

For those of you who haven't eaten much Japanese food, it is the perfect introduction. The menu options still feel familiar, and you won't need to struggle to use chopsticks.

The most popular option is Terimayo, which you need to try at least once. It is loaded with flavour-packed Teriyaki sauce, mayo, and sprinkled seaweed.

If you are anything like us, after one bite, you will never want to go back to your regular BBQ toppings.

Many classic Japanese dishes are sold in hot dog form. For example, you can get Okonomi (a savoury pancake) with the swaying bonito flakes, or Tonakatsu dog topped with deep-fried pork cutlets and cabbage.

There is even a summer festival staple β€” yakisoba. It comes with slurp-worthy fried noodles and sausage for a hearty meal perfect for when you are starving.

But when you order, make sure to save room for dessert.

Japadog also has a dish called "age ice," which is an ice cream sandwich. The deep-fried buns are stuffed with your choice of flavours like matcha, black sesame, mango and more.

The company first started back in 2005, blending Japanese flavours with the classic North American hot dog. Today they have a store on Robson Street, plus multiple food trucks around the city.

But don't just take our word how good these are. You need to try some for yourself.
