With the holidays fast approaching, everything is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Christmas decorations and music have invaded shops, markets, and festive-themed villages are starting to get ready for their grand opening. Of course, the holiday menus are also out. While last week Starbucks released its Christmas drinks, Tim Hortons was not far behind, putting out their festive selections this week.

The two coffee chains offer a rather different menu, but there is one drink that both Tim Hortons and Starbucks have in common. That is the Gingerbread Latte.

Because we truly want the best for you, we thought we would compare the two drinks to determine which was the best, or at least note the differences between the offerings from an American chain and the drink from our own "Canadian" company.

Starbucks Gingerbread Latte

Last week, I taste-tested all of Starbucks' new holiday drinks. While in previous years, the Gingerbread Latte was my favourite, I found it had changed this season.

From the first sip, it's delicious and you immediately recognize the cinnamon and spices coming through. Some of my colleagues, however, noted that it left a nasty aftertaste

Of the 5 Starbucks Christmas drinks, the Gingerbread Latte comes down to 3rd place in my opinion, behind Creme Brule and Chestnut Praline.

Tim Hortons Gingerbread Latte

It was just this morning that I tasted the Tim Hortons Gingerbread Latte. From the first sip, I thought it was better than the Starbucks, IMHO.

The taste of spices is less pronounced but still very present. In fact, it is that the mixture of spices seems more homogeneous while the beverage from Starbucks was definitely dominated by cinnamon.

However, the Tim Hortons drink with its whipped topping is very sweet. I do not recommend it as the first coffee at the beginning of the day to wake you up.

If you do you'll just end up with a sugar rush and the crash, which defeats the purpose of drinking coffee.

This is the kind of coffee you take when you come in from outside to warm up at the end of the day.

In both cases, these drinks are delicious and bring joy on these cold days that just keep getting colder.

Now, you just have to try them for themselves to choose your favourite!
