Are you a cider fanatic unhappy with the drink's representation at summer festivals? Well, have we got the perfect weekend plans for you! The annual waterfront Toronto Cider Festival is back in the city for another year and is happening this weekend at Sherbourne Common.
Fruit never seemed so good. This is the fifth year that Toronto Cider Festival, the largest of its kind in Canada, has been running. The festival will not only be entertaining but also educational about all things cider.
The event has live music on both days, an art show, dancing, and even a bartending competition.
New to the event this year is a VIP cider pairing tasting happening from 5:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday and 5 to 11 p.m. on Saturday.
"We have for a long time paired wine with our food. Then came beer. Now, cider is here to stay, and it is surprisingly a match made in heaven," Ismael Castro, owner and executive chef of El Bosco, told Narcity.
If you take part in the VIP pairing, you'll get four ciders paired with four Latin food dishes along with early access, a commemorative sample mu,g and 10 sample tokens. Each token gets you a 4 oz sample.
Regular tickets for Friday and Saturday cost $48.26 and VIP tickets are $66.02 for Friday and $89.67 for Saturday.
El Bosco will be serving up cochinita taco, creamy white fish ceviche, ajillo mushrooms and empanadas de carne. Those dishes will be paired with LoneTree's dry apple cider, ginger cider, rosé cider, and reserve cider with pinot noir respectively.
"We want to take guests on a culinary journey paired with refreshing ciders perfect for a summer day," said Castro.
Some of the ciders that will be featured at Toronto Cider Festival include Thornbury Village, East Street Cider Co., Angry Orchard Hard Cider, and Spirit Tree Estate Cidery.
"Our focus has always been bringing cider into the spotlight, promoting local farmers and giving back to the community in any way possible," Shalini Soares, owner and chief marketing director of Toronto Cider Festival, told Narcity.
Naturally, as it revolves around serving and consuming alcohol, this event is a 19+ event!
