Florida's Stone Crab season is in full swing right now, so you know what that means? That the time to break some claws and satisfy that craving approaches. Fort Lauderdale will host a stone crab and seafood festival next month, and you don't have to pay a penny for admission.
The 9th Annual Riverwalk Stone Crab & Seafood Festival will take place at Esplanade Park, in the heart of Downtown Fort Lauderdale. This will be the place where every seafood lover needs to be on January 11.
Stone crabs are legal for harvest in Florida from October 15 until May 15. Right now, it's the middle of the season, so you'll get to taste this delicacy at its best, along with other yummy marine produce.
The event is family and pet-friendly, so you are more than welcome to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to relax and have a lakeside picnic at the fest. You can arrive at 11:00 a.m. and have fun until 4:00 p.m.
The delicious food will be available for purchase at different vendors, starting at just $5. Some of the best restaurants in the city will be offering the freshest of their catch that day. Make sure to try paella, shrimp, lobster, oysters, and, of course, the stone crab claws.
Cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options will be at hand to cool anyone 21+ off.
The festival is free and open to all ages, but there will be a paid ticket for adults to access the beer garden. Pre-sale tickets are on sale right now $20, if you'd like to have unlimited ice-cold beers with your crab claws.
Live music and entertainment will be another highlight of the event, and some interactive games for adults like the traditional - and crowd-favorite, hermit crab races.
The Riverwalk Stone Crab & Seafood Festival is a rain or shine event, and since food and drinks are the main attraction, no outside food and beverages will be permitted at the premises, so keep all coolers at home.
There will be multiple parking options within blocks of the festival at Esplanade Park. However, keep in mind that the event will be right next to a show at the Broward Center and across the street from the Museum of Discovery & Science. Having said this, carpooling, UBER or taxi are highly recommended so that you can focus just on the fun.
