If you're a longtime (or even short-time) resident of the A, you're probably familiar with Sublime Doughnuts. Even if you are a visiting guest, you may have come across the Atlanta staple because yes, they are that good. The renowned doughnut shop has earned its reputation from their insanely unique doughnut flavors and combinations. In addition to their extraordinary everyday menu, Atlanta's Sublime Doughnuts offers secret menu items including a chicken and waffles doughnut, made fresh to order.
Sublime Doughnuts opened in August 2008 by founder Kamal Grant, who loves all things fried dough. The popular eatery has two locations on 10th Street (near Georgia Tech) and Briarcliff Road (North Druid Hills). Both locations are open 24 hours so you'll never have to struggle with sugar withdrawals. They also have two kiosks in The Mercedes-Benz Stadium, so grab a sweet treat next time you're at an Atlanta United game.
Grant's love for doughnuts and creativity paired with his culinary experience in baking has led him to create these divine treats. "When I would walk into other doughnut shops, I would always think to myself: wow this would be so good if there were Reese's peanut butter cups on them," says Grant. He was inspired to create something new and exciting that no one has ever tried before.
And just like that, his dreams became a reality as Sublime made its way to being perhaps the most recognized doughnut shop in the city. The first doughnuts on the menu included goodies like Oreos and Reese's. The strawberries and cream doughnut, Sublime's best seller, is sandwiched with fresh cream and strawberries, topped with powdered sugar. Kamal told Narcity that his personal favorites are the Reese's and the cinnamon swirl doughnuts.
Over the years, there have been tons of out-of-this world creations that expand beyond the imagination. There are lots of secret menu items that keep growing as Kamal comes up with different ideas.
"One of our secret items is the chicken and waffle doughnut made with shredded rotisserie chicken, egg whites and sugar. We form into a ring, freeze it, dip it in homemade waffle batter and fry it," Kamal shared. We'll take 10 please.
Kamal's goal is to create whimsical and sophisticated treats that make people happy. Another absurdly delicious creation is the lemon pepper doughnut made with lemon butter cream and fresh lemon pepper icing with a buttery glaze, just like the wings. And that's not all — they have doughnut "burgers" that consist of creamy gelato and toppings sandwiched between two doughnuts.
Next time you're feeling sublime, ask what's on the secret menu and pair it with some of their Cinnamon Toast Crunch gelato. They will be celebrating their 11th anniversary on Aug. 25, 2019 so stop in and get a free t-shirt when you wish them a happy birthday.
Georgia is all about a good sugar rush, so keep the high going with these insane desserts at Atlanta's Sugar Factory opening next month.
