Living in Atlanta, we are about 4,000 miles away from Hawaii, which is a little too far for many people's liking. There is a small piece of this tropical island hidden right here in the city, and you might have never known it existed.
The S.O.S Tiki Bar in Decatur, Georgia, is cozy, hidden, and has all the vibes of a tropical paradise. Their drinks are pretty unique and they have over 100 types of rum.
When you walk up to it, you might think you are just going down another dark Atlanta alley, but the neon S.O.S. sign on the side of the building will tell you that you're in the right place.
The atmosphere of this place has a modern tiki vibe with intimate lighting and with little hula dancers all around the bar. You will feel like you have stepped into Hawaii or Polynesia.
Your drinks will come in fake coconuts, skulls, and tiki mugs (ask your bartender how you can take one home), to keep up with the theme of course.
On their huge menu of drinks, you can expect to see choices like the Mai Tai, the Rum Barrell, the Pain Killa, and the Singapore Sling. Most of the drinks come in two options, as an individual drink, or a larger one to share with two to four other people.
Most drinks actually come on fire...yes, on fire. They come with lime or some other type of fruit on top, and then it is lit to make you feel like you are at a luau even more.
These drinks range anywhere from $6 to $30 for a shared one.
If you have a party of six to eight, you have to try one of their massive punch bowls. S.O.S told Narcity that these huge drinks are more for about 10 people.
This $100 gigantic drink is served literally in a punch bowl, and if your group finishes it, you all deserve a gold medal.
In this bowl, you will have a whole bottle of rum, fresh citrus that is juiced in house every day, soda, and pretty much whatever else your bartender wants to throw in there.
Now, if you are not ready for the Punch Bowl, you can get there for happy hour at 6:00 p.m. to get in on the $5 punch of the day deal. Happy hour goes until the punch is gone, so get there early!
S.O.S. serves small plates of food but does not have a set menu, so call them before you go to see what they are serving that night.
You can get taken to a tropical paradise from 6:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. It is a good miniature vaycay if you ask us.
