If you are from New York or have visited, you have probably fallen in love with the fresh bagels. No one knows the secret ingredient New Yorkers put in those doughy things, but it is good. Here in the south, it is hard to find that one of a kind, NY-inspired bagel shop, but there's actually one in Atlanta that people cannot get enough of.
Emerald City Bagels is located in East Atlanta. It is ran and operated by mom and daughter duo Jackie & Deanna Halcrow. Jackie went to a culinary school in New York so she really knows how to make a good New York bagel. They both eventually moved to Atlanta and started making their dreams of owning a bagel-making business a reality.
Before even getting a storefront, the Halcrow's business won best bagels in Atlanta in 2015. A few years later in 2018, they opened the doors to Emerald City Bagels and the popularity has not stopped since.
This location is so popular, the line is always out the door. The storefront looks just like a New York shop with a mix of the corner deli/pharmacy feel. The employees are dressed in white jackets and paper hats.
You will find homemade bagels, specialty cream cheeses and a variety of bagel sandwich options at Emerald City. It takes 72 hours to make a bagel, so once the store runs out of bagels for the day, you must come back the next.
Behind the counter, you will see shelves and bins of tons of bagels. You can get flavors like Sea Salt Olive Oil, Sesame Seed (black & white seeds!) and Rosemary Seasalt. To really take a step up from just a cream cheese bagel, you need to try the Scottish Lox sandwich.
On the Scottish Lox, you will get the lox, capers, onion and you can choose the bagel and cream cheese you desire. This sandwich looks way too good to eat and you will question how this was made in Atlanta and not NYC.
If you have more of a sweet tooth for breakfast items, you can head to Doughnut Dollies in West Midtown. This place serves up insane donuts, just like Emerald City serves up insane bagels.
All the bagels are just $2 and nothing here is over $10.95. The shop is open from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or until the bagels run out. You should get there before noon if you really are craving one of these!
