With October right around the corner, it's no surprise that IHOP just released a brand new Addams Family menu that many are calling "dreadfully delicious." While that may be true of something from the movie itself, we weren't as easily convinced the same could be said of the brand new menu. So (with it being fall and almost spooky season) I raced over to the nearest IHOP and tried it out for myself, and this is my honest opinion.
If you're a mega-fan of The Addams Family then chances are you'll be headed to your nearest IHOP regardless of what I tell you. For those who are easily convinced by photos of delicious-looking food, I may just save you a trip. A picture really is worth a thousand words.
Almost every member of the famous family has a dish named after them on the new menu. You have the option of choosing Wednesday's Web-Cakes, Morticia's Haunted Hot Chocolate, Gomez's Green Chile Omelette, Uncle Fester's Chocolate Ice Cream Shake, or Kooky Kids Combo. I chose what looked most appetizing to me, and that was Wednesday's Web-Cakes, Morticia's Haunted Hot Chocolate, and Uncle Fester's Chocolate Ice Cream Shake. I'm taking bets on whether I'll be sick later or not.
While any advertisement for food is going to be over the top, there's still a certain expectation when your food arrives on the table. Mine were simply not met. The pancakes looked sad and nothing like a spiderweb, and the whipped topping slid off in seconds. After taking a bite into the buttermilk pancakes, I was met with sugar, sugar, and more sugar. This isn't a complaint necessarily. I mean, it was expected from a menu item like this. For $8.29, I'd order these pancakes for sugar rush purposes only.
The ice cream shake was $6.49 which is vastly overpriced if you ask me. It was your average chocolate shake, with a hint of violet to give the illusion you're eating something super special. The hot chocolate was $3.29 and my personal favorite from what I ordered, but if you're not a huge fan of hot chocolate I wouldn't go there. Twitter is having a blast with the photo comparisons and I don't blame anyone.
So what's the final verdict? Overall, I'd recommend saving your money and spending it on seeing The Addams Family in theatres once the new movie is out. There are better ways than drowning in overpriced, unrealistic sugar cakes to feel nostalgic over your favorite childhood movie.
If you want to try something from IHOP's Addams Family menu and judge for yourself whether it lives up to your expectations, you can get them at participating IHOP locations across the country until November 3.
