Have you ever wanted to try a cherry-flavored beer? Well, this store is your one-stop-shop for cherry everything. Cherry Republic in Michigan is a tribute to all this red fruit has to offer — and the state's history with cherries is a sweet & delicious one.
This specialty store has six locations all throughout the mitt of Michigan: Glen Arbor, Holland, Traverse City, Ann Arbor, Charlevoix, and Frankenmuth — and each makes their products from Michigan's Montmorency Tart Cherries.
You probably didn't know that there are well over 200 products someone can make from cherries, including soda, wine, coffee, and even salsa! Of course, the jam is a staple of the store and it's considered some of the best in the entire state.
Even if you're not in Michigan, you can order their delicious snacks and treats online. Their website has all of their products and even offers gift boxes; which could be the perfect present for a Michigander that's no longer living around here.
Their sugary sour patches are pretty darn addicting too.
All of their stores have the cutest cherry red ball pit that's perfect for an adorable Instagram shot.
The store had humble beginnings, with the owner selling slogan t-shirts out of his car and then creating his now-famous cherry cookies. The Glen Arbor flagship store has since expanded into almost every corner of the state.
The original store in Glen Arbor is way more than just a shop too. There's a beautiful garden with outdoor seating, gorgeous flowers, and a quaint & peaceful view of the surrounding nature.
This original location even has a winery! They offer taste testings of some of the most unique beers and wines in 'The Mitt' — a nickname given to Michigan due to it being shaped like a piece of winter apparel (a mitten).
This is a true Michigan business and they focus on giving back to the community and keeping money within the state.
They've given over $2 million to nonprofits that help the state's environment and will hopefully keep the cherrie-ty flowing for decades to come.
Cherry Republic isn't the only small business thriving off of Michigan's favorite tart fruit. Every year, Traverse City hosts the National Cherry Festival.
Next year the festival will be held on July 4-11 and will feature concerts, carnival rides, and of course cherries in every form you could imagine.
Clearly, Michigan takes its cherries very seriously; Cherry Republic is a delicious demonstration of that & is well worth the visit.
