You Can Actually Get Faygo Rock N' Rye Ice Cream At This Michigan Eatery
This might be the most Michigan thing EVER; At least when Faygo's involved, you don't have to argue whether it's pop or soda!
Michiganders don't have the strongest accents of all the U.S. states, but there is something that will sound weird to the ears of people born elsewhere. The "pop" v. "soda" debate is something that people moving out of the state may have already experienced. No matter what you call it, this Michigan ice cream combines one of the state's most popular pops and pop rocks for the ultimate treat.
Probably the most Michigan pop of all time is Faygo Rock N' Rye. Faygo was founded in 1907 and created their iconic flavors during the Prohibition Era.
This non-alcoholic drink was a huge success and it has remained a part of Detroit culture since then. Now, we can get it with frozen spin only 20 minutes from where the beverage is bottled at the Vinsetta Garage restaurant.
They pour liquid nitrogen into a Faygo mixture and boom! You have ice cream. As if that burst of nostalgia wasn't enough, the ice cream is also topped with fizzy pop rocks.
They even serve it in milkshake form using the Rock n' Rye ice cream, topping it off with a healthy dollop of whipped cream.
The restaurant also serves burgers, pizza, pasta, and more, which is all a great lead up to the main attraction: your Rock n' Rye desserts.
Vinsetta Garage is considered a staple on Woodward, one of the busiest and most historic roads in Michigan. It used to be an auto shop and the restaurant conversion incorporates some of that retro auto-feel into the interior.
What's more Detroit than Faygo and vintage cars?
There's also a gorgeous skylight that fills the entire space with a beautiful glow.
As if the Rock n' Rye ice cream wasn't enough reason to visit, Esquire Network even featured this restaurant as one of its best bars in the country. We should've gone like, yesterday!
