The Virginia-based Benny's brand has different names unique to its 20 locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania (Benny Velino's, Benny Fierro's, Benny Vitali's, etc.).
Charlotte's version, Benny Pennello's, is a trendy pizza joint that opened in 2015 in the popular NoDa neighborhood. "Pennello" (which literally translates to "paintbrush") lives up to its name, flashing artsy murals and decor.
The hot spot is known for its cosmopolitan vibes, but it's best known for its monstrous slices of(aka the "Virginia slice"). Monstrous is no exaggeration here; these bad boys are well over the size of the average human head. You literally need two plates to fit the whole thing.
A regular cheese slice is only $4 and one-topping options are $5 (move over, Little Caesar's). You can choose from fan favorites like classic pepperoni, sliced Italian sausage, and garlic mushroom.
There's definitely more where that came from because the whole pies are huge too, coming in at a whopping 28 inches.
They offer unique monthly specials like "The Bro Cheese," with broccoli, beer cheese, and crispy onions, plus a chicken alfredo pie with chicken, alfredo sauce and ricotta.
