Sometimes, certain things happen, and it prompts people to say, “Only in Canada!” Like when a Canadian guy saved $1000 in Canadian Tire money to buy a canoe, or when another Canadian man went ice skating through a Tim Hortons drive-thru after a snowstorm.
The latest in the series of ‘things that happen in Canada and literally nowhere else,” a group of Canada Geese have completely stopped traffic, by walking right across the highway, without a care in the world.
The bizarre video, which was shared on Twitter on Saturday morning, showed a considerable gaggle of geese strutting across the road, seemingly with absolutely no worries or concerns for the grave danger they could have potentially been in.
However, as a testament to true Canadian-kindness, and overt Canadian-politeness, the drivers on the highway all stopped and came to a complete standstill to let the Canada geese cross over safely.
The video, which is believed to show a highway in Edmonton, had been watched more than 2,000 times as of Saturday afternoon, and had over 100 people showing their appreciation for the video via Twitter ‘likes.’
In the post, CBC joked, “ Spotted in Edmonton: Why did all the geese cross the road? We don't know - but thanks to all these drivers for giving them a brake!”

People on Twitter were quick to respond to the video, making jokes about the ridiculous things that sometimes happen in Canada. One Twitter user joked, ‘Maybe they’re auditioning for the next @JordanPeele movie. It’s takes place in Canada where the geese have created a cult and move in droves in order mildly interrupt people’s lives.”
Another added, “Canada Geese are everywhere. I for one welcome our new avian overlords. Obviously so do those drivers.”

Obviously, it would be very un-Canadian to just plow straight through the gaggle of Canada geese, but the timely and polite way that the drivers came to a quick-stop was pretty amusing for many viewers.
That said, it could be argued that they didn’t have much choice, as harming Canada geese is actually illegal in Canada, as they are protected by the Migratory Birds Convention Act. This means that deliberately harming them or their nests can lead to tens of thousands of dollars in fines, or even jail time.
In that case, it's probably best that the drivers came to a full and complete stop! It also made for another great, "Oh, Canada!" moment. Nowhere else in the world like it, eh?
