Canada's Only Ice Castles Are Officially Opening This Weekend

Tickets are on sale in January.
Magical Ice Castles In Edmonton Are Officially Opening This Weekend

After the holidays there's always a bit of a lull. It even feels like the excitement of the season has come and gone and there's still a long winter ahead. In Edmonton, that long winter is going to be so much more fun because magical Ice Castles straight out of the movie Frozen are opening in early January.

Edmonton is the only Canadian city that these towering icy structures will be coming to in 2020.

Edmonton’s Hawrelak Park has been transformed into a glacial wonderland. An entire acre large, the experience will have frozen tunnels to explore as well as icy thrones you can sit at and actually pretend you're Elsa.

This is going to be the fifth year that the breathtaking experience comes to Edmonton. This year, it's also coming to places in the United States like Utah, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Colorado.

You can even create an entire ice-themed bucket list for January in Alberta! The Ice on Whyte Festival is also happening in January. Tickets are super cheap so you won't want to miss out. Plus, Ice Magic at Lake Louise is right around the corner.

There's no limit to how much time you can spend wandering among the frozen towers and tunnels but most people spend about 30 minutes to an hour.

These icy palaces have giant towers that are studded with LED lights that change colour so just as the sun sets is the best time to witness the magic.

This is one of the most romantic places for a date in Edmonton this winter. Even if you're in Calgary, it's totally worth the drive up to see it.

Tickets go on sale as of Wednesday, January 1. Buy online and buy early so that you won't miss out because the castles are only here until they melt. Exact dates and opening hours are weather-dependant.
