Naming babies isn't easy, but these celebs are killing it! One of the most recent pieces of news to totally shock the internet is Elon Musk and Grimes' baby name. Although some of the memes spawned from the birth of recently renamed X Æ A-Xii are hilarious, let's not forget that plenty of other Canadian stars have also come up with unique names over the years.
Everything from Disney princesses to Greek mythology has played a role in helping these stars name their kids, and you would be surprised how many of them, just like Grimes and Musk, make the decision to change their child's name.
Celebrity pregnancy announcements are shared on what feels like a daily basis, so odds are good that you can expect to see even more totally unique baby names from Canadian stars revealed over the next few years.
Sunday Molly Myers
While on The Tonight Show with David Letterman a few years back, Mike Myers explained how his daughter's unique name came to be.
“Sunday is because me and my wife Kelly hate Sundays — I’m not even kidding — and we wanted to turn it around and make it a good thing," the Shrek actor explained.
Esmeralda Amada Gosling
Eva Mendes shares two daughters with husband Ryan Gosling — Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee. In a 2016 interview with Latina, Mendes explained why they chose to reuse the name for both children.
"My grandmother's name is Amada, and Esmeralda Amada is the name of our oldest. We had a few names picked out for our new baby, and when she was born, we didn't feel like those names were her."
"In true Latin fashion, we reuse names all the time," the Hitch actress continued. "I actually told [Ryan], 'This is common in Latin culture, so it wouldn't be crazy.'"
In a 2015 interview with PEOPLE, Hayden Christensen revealed that he and Rachel Bilson came up with their daughter's name through their mutual love for Disney.
“The original Sleeping Beauty is called Briar Rose," the Canadian star said. “We both love all things Disney — but Rachel especially was very keen on the name. We have Disney songs playing around the house 24/7 right now.”
According to Harper's Bazaar, Khloe Kardashian revealed the meaning behind True's name in a post on her app a few years back.
“I knew I wanted my baby, so one night while we were all at dinner, thinking of some names, my grandma MJ suggested True,” the reality star said of she and Tristan Thompson's daughter.
"She told me it was my great-grandfather's first name and my grandfather's middle name. It stuck with me for my entire pregnancy and was the only one I couldn't get out of my head."
Arwen Lucinda Jane
All three of Grey's Anatomy star Caterina Scorsone's children have unique names — Paloma, Eliza, and Arwen.
In a post on her Instagram page, Scorsone revealed that just months after the birth of her youngest, she decided to change her name from Arwen to Lucinda, which was initially her middle name.
