This Retro Drug Store Is Secretly The Best Spot For Ice Cream In Calgary
Locals love this hidden gem! 🤫
In our humble opinion, it's the beloved local joints that really make a city unique. We're talking places where tourists pass by but locals congregate, coffee shops and restaurants that make up the heart of the neighbourhood. This retro Calgary drug store is all that and more, and it's the perfect place to cool down this summer.
Lukes Drug Mart first opened way back in 1951, and it's stayed one of the Bridgeland neighbourhood's favourites over three generations. Family owned and operated for almost 70 years, they call themselves the "oldest independent pharmacy in Calgary."
They've since expanded from their Bridgeland roots to open a second store in the Killarney neighbourhood.
Inside, you'll find everything you need fromand tons of unique soft serve ice cream flavours to books and a vast vinyl collection. Getting your prescriptions refilled has never felt so cool.
You'll love this place for itsand unique style. The store feels like it came straight out of the 1950s with a super nostalgic vibe.
The coffee bar is right inside their front door, where you can order their delicious soft-serveand, of course, java.
You've got to try out their charcoal soft serve that stains your tongue black. While there, taste test their "supermilk" or rhubarb frozen yogurt flavours.
If you can't handle that level of brain freeze, you can also get the flavours together in a twist for maximum ice cream efficiency.
The walls outside the stores are also home to this huge, mindblowing mural that looks like an optical illusion, which your Instagram will thank you for. Just in case you need even more reason to visit this place.
Downstairs, they even have a little grocery store with a surprising amount of options.
If you could only choose one store to shop from for the rest of your life, this little-known drug store might just fit the bill.
