Little known fact, but some Canadians are actually 15% poutine — or at least my doctor said I was. If you're under your quota, however, have no fear — there's a giant Calgary poutine competition coming this weekend. Soon, you'll have more deliciousness than you can handle. YYC Foodtrucks is hosting a massive food truck poutine cookoff called "Poutine Palooza" from Saturday, May 23 to Sunday, May 24. It's taking place between 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Calgary's Grey Eagle Casino. This is the second poutine cookoff they've held this year, said YYC Food Trucks co-owner Jeremy Andrews to Narcity. The first one was on Tuesday, May 12, and was hugely popular, he said. "It was an amazing response with a lot, a lot of cars. Yeah, we inundated the parking lot and there were large lines," he said. This time, they're moving to a bigger location. He estimates up to a thousand people could show up. The event is a drive-thru, so no there's need to leave your vehicle. All you need to do is join the line in your car, order at the window, and drive to the pickup spot. Staff will then bring out your food so you can enjoy from a safe distance. "People are encouraged to get their food and take it somewhere where they can enjoy — at a socially distant, responsible spot." As for food, expect to find interesting flavours like poutine with lobster and alfredo sauce, a New Orleans inspired sausage crumble with house-made sauce, butter chicken, or refreshing Greek feta fries, Andrews said.
