And I did it because I wanted to re-associate with what I love about this industry and what I love about wine. I took some time to myself, I allowed myself to be picky and I allowed myself to ease in. And here I’ve landed @faunaottawa The wine list is currently being run by the very talented Mike Rochon. Before him, my friend Eric and before him the famous Alex. Aside from Fauna immediately feeling like home, it’s really refreshing to be surrounded by such talented people who not only know everything there is to know about food and wine, but genuinely love it. Every day I get to explore the work of the three men that have crafted such a beautiful list and find special gems like this guy. Fabio Gea’s ‘Back Grin’, from Piedmont in the North of Italy. Inside this exceptionally cool bottle is a light, sharp, bright, red fruit fuelled wine made from Grignolino. A grape, I truthfully hadn’t heard of until I dug this bottle out of our cellar today. An indigenous varietal known for its sharp tannins and whose name comes from the local dialects word for “many pips” - where the wine gets its sharp tannins. As per Wikipedia. All that to say, I’m having a great time discovering more about the wine world, eating great food and getting to know the wonderful crew I work with.
