Prior to this year the Nancy Kerrigan attack was an event that had practically become long forgotten. Though with the revival of the tragedy through none other than Tonya Harding's perspective through Craig Gillespie's I, Tonya starring Margot Robbie, the event that shook the world in 1994 is back on the minds of millions.

If you need a brief refresher, both Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan were members of USA's figure skating team, both peak athletes. When Nancy proved to become stiffer competition for Tonya, who was arguably the best at her time and revolutionized the figure skating game, tragedy ensued. Tonya's husband attacked Kerrigan's knee with a baton on January 6th, 1994 during a practice session in Detroit. Tonya was included in the plan according to the U.S Figure Skating Association and was banned for life.

Many years later, Tonya continues to maintain her innocence claiming that she was not involved in the attack. Though she does say that she "knew something was up" in regards to her husband plotting the attack. I, Tonya talks about the situation and Tonya's life from her perspective, touching on the abuse she suffered from her husband and own mother. As well as her rough around the edges personality that had it not been for her unbelievable talent, would have kept her from the success she achieved in figure skating.

I, Tonya did a great job at re inviting a discussion that even at the time of the attack could never be solved for certain, did Tonya know? In the wake of the popularity over the scandal once again, ABC has announced that they will be airing a 2-hour interview with Tonya called Truth and Lies: The Tonya Harding Story.  The interview is slated to talk about not only the attack but also the aftermath and what life was like after she was ostracized from the skating community and practically the whole world. The special will be airing on January 11th at 9 p.m on ABC.
