If you can brave the Albertan cold you can brave anything, right? On Sunday, March 8 the world saw Michael Dietrich, a fitness trainer from Edmonton compete on the 21-day survival challenge, Naked and Afraid. Leading up to the screening last night, Dietrich spent 21 days in a Columbian jungle completely naked. Though the Alberta boy came out successful, he shared just how difficult the whole ordeal was on social media.

The Edmonton competitor posted on Sunday, March 8, saying “Today’s the day!” he wrote.

He continued to say that he never thought a bunch of naked footage of himself would be landing in someone else's hands, let alone for the world to see.

In an interview with Narcity, Dietrich told us all about his chilling experience on Naked and Afraid. But first, here's what you need to know about the challenge itself.

Though Dietrich was unable to confirm any monetary compensation attached to the show, the Daily News explains that contestants are compensated for their time.

Naked and Afraid by the Discovery Channel is broken down on Discovery’s website. Basically, a pair of strangers are stranded together in "one of the world's most extreme weather environments."

The duo doesn’t have food, water, or clothing. The object of the game is to survive for 21 days with only one personal item each.

The question stands: “Will the nude castaways have the brains and brawn to endure the harsh conditions? Or will the challenges prove to be overbare-ing?”

The show's name sure says it all.

It sounds like a pretty difficult task. Though, if you think about the exposure (literally) and the accomplishment, perhaps you would consider enduring (or trying to endure) the 21-day challenge.

In the Edmonton-local's Instagram post on the day of his episode’s screening, he wrote: “ I hope I can make you guys proud as a Canadian + Albertan on this challenge.”

He also detailed the difficulty of the journey for him as he has dealt with body image issues in the past.

Back in February, he announced on social media that he had competed on the show, though it didn’t air until March.

🔺FINALLY🔺 I get to share the secret of where I disappeared to. I took on the challenge from @nakedandafraid attempting to survive for 21 days in one of the most remote areas in the world with nothing except 1 item of my choice,” he wrote.

We caught up with Dietrich to learn a little bit more about the experience.

The whole experience was amazing, it is challenging to feel what starvation is truly like and many of the struggles which they didn’t have time to air,” he told us.

“Dealing with loneliness and nothing but being stuck in your own mind was tough cause the days are so long. You really feel like you take a lot for granted when you are stripped of EVERYTHING.”

We can't even imagine.

What would you do to be on TV? This show sure answers that question for us. If you're looking to play it safer, there's always Family Feud or another less remote, less naked reality show.
