Get Ready, Netflix Is Set To Produce At Least 90 Films With Insane Budgets In 2019
Finally, some good news!
If you're the type who loves to spend your weekends on the couch with some, or even if you just like having good content while you Netflix n' Chill, we've got great news for you. Netflix is set to produce at least 90 films in the new year, with budgets up to $200 million.
According to Scott Stuber, who is Netflix's Original Movie Chief, there are two main divisions - Originals, and Indie films. The streaming service has plans to release 20 Originals, whose budgets will range from $20 million to $200 million. They also have plans to release about 35 Indie films, whose budgets will come in below $20 million.
Other genres to be released by Netflix include animated and documentary and will bring the total number of films put out annually to 90. To put this into perspective, Universal Studios, who is one of the biggest names in Hollywood when it comes to film production only puts out about 30 films per year - so Netflix is set to triple them.
In 2018, Netflix was nominated for 112 Emmy's, making them a leader in the TV-industry awards sector. They're on to bigger and better things in 2019 however, with their sights set on the Oscars.
With plans for all these Original films, you have to wonder who Netflix has called upon to star in them. It's been rumoured that big names like Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Ben Affleck, Eddie Murphy, and more will be showing up on the small screen in your living room.
The main reason for all this original content creation is simple - it's much cheaper. By putting out their own content, Netflix doesn't have to pay for expensive streaming rights, and they're also banking on this exclusive content to boost their subscription numbers, which is definitely working for them
