Book buffs are those who enjoy cuddling up and reading a novel for hours, and movie buffs do the same with a bowl of popcorn and a remote. It's even more fun for the people that do both! Here are seven Netflix Canada movies based on books for you to read before you watch.
The Lovely Bones
This 2009 drama starred Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, and Stanley Tucci. The story actually comes from a 2002 book of the same name written by Alice Sebold. It's about a young girl who is raped and murdered and is forced to watch from heaven how her friends and family deal with her death.
Mean Girls
The four mean girls in the 2004 movie are actually based on a 2002 self-help book, Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. The novel is about cliques within high school-aged girls which was a big influence on the film.
Easy A
Before Penn Badgley was going around stalking and murdering people in You, he had a role in the 2010 movie opposite Emma Stone and Amanda Bynes. The story was slightly based on The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
My Sister's Keeper
If you're in the mood for a cry fest, look no further than the book and movie of the same name. Jodi Picoult wrote the original 2004 novel that was adapted into a film in 2009. They follow almost the exact same storyline about a girl who was created as the support for organs and blood for her older sister who was born with leukemia.
To All The Boys I've Loved Before
The 2018 movie getting a sequel next month is based on a novel of the same name by Jenny Han. That means you can fall in love with Peter Kavinsky all over if you pick up a copy of the book. You still have time to read both the original and sequel before the second one premieres on February 12.
The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas
Asa Butterfield, who you may already know and love from Sex Education, starred in this 2008 movie based on a 2006 novel of the same name. It was written by John Boyne about a young boy growing up during World War II.
Forrest Gump
Though the movie is 25 years old, it still pulls at the heartstrings and is a feel-good movie with a few tears. Tom Hanks played the inspiring role of Forrest in 1994 and the novel it's mirrored after by Winston Groom came out years before in 1986.
