Netflix's Newest Show Is About A Girl Who's Been Kidnapped And Brainwashed And It Looks Terrifying
'Black Earth Rising' will be available on Netflix as of January 25th.
Imagine waking up one day, and realizing that you know absolutely nothing about who you really are, how you got where you currently are, or who your birth family is. Sounds terrifying, doesn't it? Luckily, I don't think anything like that will happen to most of us in this lifetime - but in case you want to live it out, Netflix is releasing a show about a girl who's been kidnapped and brainwashed, and it looks terrifying.
The show is called Black Earth Rising, and stars Michaela Coel (who you may have seen in Chewing Gum or Black Mirror). Coel plays a woman, Kate Ashby, who is on a persistent journey to uncover her past, that has been blatantly covered up by the people in her life.
Ashby was one of the millions who was affected by the Rwandan Genocide, but she managed to survive, and was taken in by a human rights attorney who raised her in London. Following in her adopted mother's footsteps, Ashby becomes a legal investigator, and when she begins taking on war crime cases, she confronts her past.
The show also stars actor John Goodman, who works alongside Ashby to help her uncover the dark truths of her past. From the trailer alone, the series looks like it's going to be very dramatic and chilling, so we're expecting big things so far.
You'll be able to stream Black Earth Rising on Netflix as of January 25th, but for now, you can check out the trailer here:
