Even though Netflix has been trying to take over the box office by promoting all of their original content, nothing will ever compare to that movie theatre feel. It's been extremely busy at the box office this year with studios putting out iconic films that they've been hinting at for years. And we're glad to tell you that it doesn't look like the stream of huge box office movies is slowing down anytime soon. The second half of 2019 is jam-packed with movies you're going to want to check out. I mean, exhibit A: the new Star Wars Movie comes out in December!\nWith big-budget films like Aladdin, Anabelle Creation, Avengers: Endgame, and Toy Story coming out earlier this year, movie studios aren't stopping there with the iconic movie releases. Here are eight movies hitting theatres this year that are expected to top the box office!\nFast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw\nRelease Date: August 2\nThis movie is one of the last big-budget films to be released this summer.\nHobbs and Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham who reprise their characters from the very first Fast & Furious film. The two team up when they discover they are being terrorized by a cyber-genetically enhanced human who is threatening to destroy humanity.\nIT: Chapter Two\nRelease Date: September 6\nIT: Chapter Two closes the movie series that was rebooted from its original mini-series and adapted from Stephen King's famous novel. Fans are so excited because the film looks absolutely terrifying.\nIn this film, the Losers Club is 27 years into the future when they discover their childhood home of Derry is being terrorized by Pennywise the clown. Again. They come together from all walks of life to defeat the sinister clown once and for all.\nThis is the perfect movie to start up spooky season!\nJoker\nRelease Date: October 4\nThis movie trailer gained all the praise for its creepy tactics and chilling music.\nJoker stars Joaquin Phoenix and tells the backstory of the iconic Batman villain. Arthur Fleck is a failed comedian who slowly morphs into a psychopathic killer, eventually becoming the infamous Joker.\nMaleficent: Mistress of Evil\nRelease Date: October 18\nDisney strikes again with a much-anticipated movie! The sequel to Maleficent will also be released later this year! Queen Angelina Jolie is reprising her role as Maleficent and we're so ready.\nIn this film, a new Evil Queen attempts to get in between Maleficent and Princess Aurora's thriving relationship, forcing them to band together with others to protect each other and their land.\nFrozen 2\nRelease Date: November 22\nDisney has already done enough this year with Avengers Endgame, Spider-man Far From Home, Toy Story 4, Aladdin, Lion King, and Maleficent, but they're also releasing Frozen 2. This isn't even their last movie of the year!\nWhile details about Frozen 2 are very scarce - even the trailer is vague - we do know that it centers around all the same characters. From the trailer, we can decipher that the plot involves Anna and Elsa setting out on an adventure that has something to do with the origins of Elsa's ice magic.\nJumanji: The Next Level\nRelease Date: December 16\nThis is the second installment in the revamped Jumanji series. The movie centers around teen Spencer, from the first movie, who got sucked back into the game while trying to fix the Jumanji video game console. His friends soon realize this and follow him into another round of Jumanji! Spencer's grandfather also makes his way into the simulation, which introduces Danny Devito into the already iconic cast.\nThe sequel will include original cast members Nick Jonas, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan.\nCats\nRelease Date: December 20\nCats hits theatres right at the end of the year and will have some competition fighting for the top spot with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.\nAs you've probably guessed, the movie is a film adaptation of the Broadway musical, Cats. It has the same premise - the Jellicles compete yearly to decide which cat will rise to the Heaviside Layer.\nWe have to admit that even though the animation of the cats is a bit unsettling, the cast is EPIC. Key cast members include Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Cordon, Rebel Wilson, Idris Elba, and Judie Dench.\nStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker\nRelease Date: December 20\nDisney is sending off 2019 with a BANG! This movie marks the end of an era after the Star Wars universe was brought back to life back in 2015.\nThe movie follows Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron on their last adventure together. They embark on their journey to prepare for the final battle against the First Order.\nLike we said, Stars Wars has the same release date as Cats so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
