Were these superheroes also treated to the Roland special? The Schitt’s Creek’s Rosebud Motel has become a staple on the show, but the real-life location used for filming isn’t exactly exclusive to the award-winning comedy. The now-abandoned building was also featured in another Canadian favourite.

Netflix has claimed Ontario for the production of its hit superhero series, The Umbrella Academy, since early 2019. When it premiered on the platform, some fans noticed that the province wasn’t the only thing the series had in common with Schitt’s Creek. They also filmed multiple scenes at the iconic Rosebud Motel.

If you recall the first season of The Umbrella Academy, futuristic assassin Hazel and his newfound true love Agnes, hideout from stone-cold Cha Cha in a run-down motel.

When the show first premiered, fans noticed that the refuge mimicked another motel they had grown to know very well, and turned to Schitt’s Creek co-creator Dan Levy for confirmation, “@danjlevy is this rosebud motel showing up on #UmbrellaAcademy ??!! Love. @SchittsCreek #Schittscreek.”

Levy put their wonderings to rest when he quoted the viewers tweet and jokingly teased, “YES! We hand painted each of those colorful bricks! GET OFF MY LAWN, UMBRELLA ACADEMY! ,” confirming the motel’s debut on the superhero series.

Something even more special about the motel is that it doesn’t just have to be something you occasionally catch a glimpse of on your screen.

It’s part of a bunch of filming locations, like the Schitt’s Creek town itself, that you can visit in real life.

The tourist attraction is located roughly one hour outside of Toronto in Orangeville, Ontario.

If you’re a huge fan of The Umbrella Academy, there’s also a list of filming locations you can visit in real life like Griddy’s Donut Shop, and the theatre Vanya performs at.

While Schitt’s Creek will be coming to an end over the course of the next few weeks, hope of seeing the motel on your screen again is not lost.

The Umbrella Academy recently wrapped filming season 2 in Canada, however, there has yet to be an announced premiere date for the second installment.
