Sophie Turner Just Confirmed When The Next 'Game Of Thrones' Season Will Start
The end is coming.
Winter is officially here, but fans will just have to wait a little longer to see it.
Season eight of Game of Thrones began shooting back in October, and HBO promised fans the finale would premiere in either 2018 or 2019 - though we all hoped for as soon as possible.
But Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, has now confirmed the worst. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will not air until 2019.
Sophie told Variety: "I'm really excited. Game of Thrones comes out in 2019."
The announcement comes after HBO president Casey Bloys hinted that season eight - which has been shortened to just six episodes instead of the usual 10 - may be delayed for an entire year.
Bloys told Entertainment Weekly that producers wanted to make sure the finale is "cinematic".
He said: "One of the hallmarks of the show has been how cinematic it is. The show has proven that TV is every bit as impressive and in many cases more so, than film. What they're doing is monumental. When you see these battles in season 7, and what I imagine season 8 will be, it's a big, big show. We've done a lot of great shows, but this one combines the complex characters we love with a huge cinematic scope."
Well, we may have to wait longer than expected, but surely that just means season eight is going to be even better than we ever imagined. Let's hope so, anyway.
