Get your Michael Scott fix! It’s been over seven years since the hit sitcom that was The Office aired its last episode, but many of the show’s stars have been staying booked and busy. In fact, Steve Carell’s latest project is Space Force on Netflix, and people already can’t stop talking about it.

Back in January of 2019, Netflix made the announcement that it would be working on a brand new comedy series with Carell about the creation of the 6th major division of the U.S. Armed Forces—the Space Force.

After nearly a year and a half of waiting, the Netflix original is almost here, and if you’re a fan of The Office, you have a lot to be excited about.

Although he may not exactly be reprising his role as Michael Scott, Carell’s character in the upcoming series, Mark Naird, has plenty of similarities.

Firstly, they both have incredibly unique leadership skills, and although they both have a way of getting things done, it’s usually not without some comic relief at their expense.

In the show’s teaser trailer that was released earlier this year, we see Mark rushing into his office telling his secretary, “no interruptions for five minutes” before reciting the lyrics to “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys—something Michael Scott would probably approve of.

If you’re not already drawn in by the show’s hilarious plot and cast, it’s worth mentioning that it comes from the mind of Greg Daniels, who is known for his work on The Office.

“Netflix pitched the show to me, and then I pitched the show to Greg, and we all had the same reaction to it. There was no show, there was no idea aside from the title,” Carell told Deadline.

“We realized that the story had beautiful visuals and a mythic quality, and it echoed some of America’s best moments. It had a lot of heroism and yet it also had a strong satirical element,” Daniels said in the same interview.

Much like The Office, Space Force also has an incredible ensemble cast that will definitely keep you laughing.

You may not get to see familiar faces from Dunder Mifflin, but you’ll recognize stars from hilarious shows like Friends, Glee, and Modern Family, just to name a few.

May has been a busy month for the streaming service, and June is looking to be even bigger. Titles like The Last Days of American Crime, Lenox Hill, and The Woods will all be released over the coming weeks.

Space Force is coming to Netflix on Friday, May 29. You can check out the comical trailer for the new series below.
