Just like Netflix, other streaming services have begun rolling out a steady stream of original content to keep their viewers entertained. One project in particular that people are looking forward to is Stargirl on Disney+, which is coming to the platform in just a few weeks.

Back in the year 2000, author Jerry Spinelli released a novel called Stargirl, about a young boy named Leo who, over the years, has learned that standing out at Mica Area High School is one of the worst things you can do.

When a teen who goes by the name of Stargirl arrives at the school though, things suddenly change. Stargirl has spent her entire life being homeschooled, so when she shows up at Mica High wearing bright colours, ukulele in tow, the student body is fascinated.

No one is more enchanted than Leo. As the popularity scales shift and Stargirl is suddenly made to be a social outcast, Leo finds himself sticking by her side and realizing that he is, in fact, in love with her.

The book was popular when it was released 20 years ago, and now Disney+ has decided to make it into an original film for the streaming service.

According to IMDb, the film stars Darby Stanchfield (Scandal), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Shelby Simmons (Bunk’d), Karan Brar (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), and Maximiliano Hernández (Item 47).

The movie is also 16-year-old “Moonlight” singer Grace VanderWaal’s film debut. She’ll be taking on the role of Stargirl alongside Vancouver-born actor Graham Verchere, who will be playing the role of Leo Borlock.

According to Meaww, Stargirl will be premiering on Disney+ on Friday, March 13. Other films you can look forward to next month include Bedtime Stories, A Wrinkle in Time, and Ice Age, among others.
