I'm sure I'm not the only one who loves prison movies. There is something about them that is intriguing to the point where you kind of feel bad for the inmates. Prison movies are unlike anything else, because most of us watching have 0 idea what it's like to be in that situation. It's a whole different world.

Netflix comes through with all the best movies, and they don't skimp out when it comes to prison movies. Whether it's based on a true story or not, they're all so interesting and most of them have an insane twist you never saw coming. So if you're looking for something to watch tonight, here are some prison movies that will have you on the edge of your seat!

The Shankshaw Redemption

Via IMDb

Whoever has seen this movie knows it's the real deal. While it may be older, from 1994 actually, that doesn't take away from the fact that it is an unreal movie. A man named Andy is sentenced to life in prison... twice, for the murders of his wife and the person she was having an affair with. It's pretty clear that Andy didn't commit the murders, and the ending is one of the biggest twists in history. A must watch if you haven't seen it!

The Stanford Prison Experiment

Via IMDb

While watching this movie, keep in mind that it's based on a true story. The Stanford Prison Experiment is really about the bullying in prison of the guards and prisoners. It's about a professor that organizes an experiment where 24 male college students are assigned to be either a prisoner or a guard, but it does not go as planned as the 'guards' take their jobs a little too seriously. This is a good movie if you want to see how prisoners really live, but keep in mind it's based in 1971.

True Story

Via IMDb

You've never seen Jonah Hill or James Franco in a role like this. Jonah Hill plays a man named Michael Finkel who had just lost his job. In the midst of all that, he also realizes someone has stolen his identity. And not just anyone... but someone who is accused of murdering his entire family. The story really picks up when Michael goes to meet Christian Longo, who is played by James Franco, to get answers.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Via IMDb

Who doesn't love Matthew McConaughey? And as a lawyer? Sign me up! He plays a defense attorney named Mick, who is assigned to a playboy in Beverly Hills who is played by Ryan Phillippe. He's accused of attempted murder, but Mick figures out something that can destroy him. All out of his moving office, which is a Lincoln Continental sedan. So boss!

Gridiron Gang

Via IMDb

Doesn't look like a prison movie, eh? Well, you may disagree, but it's actually based in a juvy hall. The Rock is really the star of the movie, as he is their counselor and urges them to play football to get out their anger, as well as boost their confidence. This movie is based on a true story, and if that doesn't give you all the feels, then I'm not sure what will!

Law Abiding Citizen

Via IMDb

How far would you go to protect your family? Well, Gerard Butler plays a man that would go very far, after he finds the killer who killed his wife and daughter after breaking into their home. The killer is now free after a plea bargain, so he goes after him as well as everyone else involved in the case. This movie will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time!

Escape Plan

Via IMDb

Sylvester Stallone AND Arnold Schwarzenegger in a movie? Iconic. Escape Plan is about a man who is set up and held in a prison that is the most secure in the world. The prison is top secret, and since he is an expert at security, he has to find a way to escape without leaving the building. Sounds intense!
