The Northern Lights are one of those natural wonders that Canada is best known for — but how many of us have ever actually seen them in the flesh? If the Northern Lights are something that you’ve always dreamed of witnessing for yourself but you just haven’t managed to get around to making the trip up North, you’re going to love this new VR installation setting up camp in downtown Calgary this month! View this post on Instagram . A cold, clear evening last night produced some perfect conditions for Aurora Borealis viewing in the Yellowknife, NWT area. Some flare-ups around the midnight hour initiated some overhead symphonies full of colour, dancing above towers of black spruce in the boreal forest. While the outside temperature was a bone chilling -40C, my soul was filled with warmth experiencing this spectacular display of nature. Thanks so much to @kailawalton for showing me around. Also a massive thanks to @spectacularnwt for this wonderful opportunity. #NWTWillChangeYou #SpectacularNWT #Partner A post shared by Mark Jinks | Alberta | Canada (@markjinksphoto) on Mar 7, 2020 at 10:43am PST This March, Northwest Territories Tourism is bringing the magic of the aurora borealis to downtown Calgary, where you’ll be able to immerse yourself in an awesome northern lights experience that’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Experience the Northwest Territories in (free!) 360° action with a specially-designed VR car that’ll take you on an unforgettable northern adventure. You'll go from running with a herd of wild, majestic caribou to viewing the mystical natural phenomenon of the northern lights (the N.W.T. has the best auroras in the world, after all!). This limited-time installation will take place at both the Hilton Garden Inn Calgary Downtown and the Chinook Centre until Sunday, March 15. Michael Sidofsky This is a once in a lifetime chance to get a glimpse of what Canada’s northern regions offer in terms of the great outdoors. While we are all a part of the same great country, the Northwest Territories possess qualities that are unique to their area that we should all be lucky enough to experience for ourselves. Don't let the regular appearance of the car fool you — it will leave you hungry for adventure and eager to explore the boundless opportunities that await in the N.W.T.! And what better way to follow up your virtual reality experience than by taking in the real thing in all of its glory? At the Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show at the Stampede Park BMO Centre on March 21-22, Northwest Territories Tourism will be hosting an exclusive onsite contest where you’ll have the chance to enter to win one of four all-inclusive trips for two to the Northwest Territories. After a fantastic 3 course meal in our Tipi, we experienced the beauty of a northern evening wandering around the village, keeping warm next to the fire, enjoying hot drinks, and having great conversation. Thank you @spectacularnwt for the incredible experience. #NWTWillChangeYou #SpectacularNWT #partner A post shared by Mark Jinks | Alberta | Canada (@markjinksphoto) on Mar 4, 2020 at 8:43am PST A visit to the N.W.T. is like no other, guaranteed to change you and the way you appreciate and interact with the natural world. View this post on Instagram There’s an unparalleled sense of freedom and wilderness in the Northwest Territories - it’s something I crave throughout the year. What really makes it special up here is the personalities you’ll meet. The locals are so passionate about where they live: they’ll feed you until you’re full and you’ll leave feeling like a family member. I came home feeling refreshed with a deeper appreciation for the North and a hunger to go back for more! #NWTWillChangeYou @spectacularnwt Partner #SpectacularNWT A post shared by Callum Snape (@calsnape) on Jan 26, 2020 at 7:14pm PST Northwest Territories Northern Lights Virtual Reality Experience Price: Free!
