Guys, I know we can all agree that living on your own is not all it’s hyped up to be. I mean, sure, freedom is pretty sweet and having your own place to call home is great and all but the bills that come every month are not so great. Not to mention rent… I will never take for granted living at my parent's house. Ever.\nRent is my worst nightmare. Why you may be wondering? Well, my dear reader, rent always gets in the way of that cute dress that I want to buy or that expensive dinner that I would love to go to. Actually, who am I kidding, I always put off paying my rent until the very last day. I mean, priorities, right?\nDon’t roll your eyes, I may not be the responsible 22-year old that I make myself out to be but I know just as well that y’all are doing the same thing. Making big purchases you know you're going to regret before paying your rent… Well guys, just know that you’re not alone.\nHere are 7 things Torontonians regret buying before paying their rent:\nvia @veldmusicfestival\nBuying tickets to every.single.festival BEFORE paying your rent\nOk, but really… can you blame us? With VELD and DREAMS Festival in the summer it’s no wonder that we all spend our money on these activities instead of prioritizing our rent. However, we all know that once the festivals are over we will be feeling all of the regrets.\nvia @lovedaniellegilbride\nPurchasing expensive hockey tickets to go see the Leafs play\nYeah, I get it… I have a problem. And the demand for tickets is driving up prices but helloooooooo… We need to show our pride and support for our favourite team! Have you ever been to a game? If so, then you’ll understand the excitement and the NEED to be inside the ACC during hockey season.\nvia @ricardas134\nRicarda’s all you can eat brunch because, in Toronto, we take brunch seriously.\nWho doesn’t love a good brunch? Especially on Sundays. Ok, Monday-Saturday too. Brunch tastes delicious any day of the week and it tastes even better with some friends. Which is why I splurge on the best brunch in town every week with some of my best friends. My go to spot is obviously Ricarda… It’s a little bit on the pricey side but I have no regrets. Well, until I have to pay my rent.\nHowever, dropping some serious cash on brunch is not a problem, especially when I use my Scotiabank SCENE Debit Card. My little red card of happiness lets me earn points on everyday purchases such as brunch with the gals. I earn 1 SCENE point for every $5 spent. So what does that mean? Well, all the points I rack up can be redeemed for movies, meals and sports gear too. Win? I think so.\nvia @lovesusnot\nBottles on your birthday because everyone deserves the VIP treatment on their big day\nBottles... or maybe a bubble machine and a big bouncy castle...My birthday is the most wonderful time of the year so it’s no surprise that I go big or... Nah, I just go big. This means that bottles are popping at my favourite club, Wildflower. Sure, it’s one hell of an expensive night and my rent is due in the next couple of days but sue me! It’s my birthday after all.\nvia @tovogueorbust\nSpending half your paycheck on a massive shopping spree\nThe struggle of every single girl I know. Shopping is our arch nemesis…We hate it but we love it. It’s like an addiction. Yes, shopping is an addiction, have you ever watched Confessions of A Shopaholic? Every time my paycheck gets deposited into my account, my first thought is Aritzia. I know, I sound really irresponsible but I know I’m not alone on this one. Girls, shopping is a serious issue and who are we kidding, we’ve all made some pretty extravagant purchases that we regret immediately. Thank god I have a Scotiabank SCENE Debit card. At least I’m earning points while shopping!\nvia @torontohairdesign\nPampering yourself because look good, feel good… Right?\nGuys, I know you’re thinking this is just a girl thing but I know you want to look good too. Taking care of yourself is part of the job. My beauty routine every month consists of waxing, getting my nails done, getting my hair done and of course, splurging on some Sephora products. It isn’t exactly a cheap routine but it gets the job done and it helps me look great. Sure, could I go a month without all of these expenses… Yeah, I could. Will I regret splurging on all these beauty treatments? Of course, I will.\nvia @christinagcheng\nForking out cash flow to pay for that expensive gym membership\nCan we all agree that gym memberships are ridiculously expensive? Yet, I still manage to scrape up enough cash every month to pay for my gym pass. Is this a necessity? No. Do I have a gym in my condo? Yes. Can I just give up my pass and use the free gym at home? Yes, of course, but the thing is, I’m a lot more motivated when I’m surrounded by people who are sweating and lifting heavy things. Plus, the atmosphere at the gym is pretty great.\nLuckily, with my Scotiabank SCENE debit card, I earned enough points to get FREE runners at SportChek, which at least makes my gym gear a little easier to afford.\nSo yeah, I’m not exactly a role model when it comes to my finances, and there's a long list of things that I regret buying before paying my rent but I have needs...
