It's no secret that social media has seeped into all areas of our day to day lives, and of course, society as a whole.\nEveryday, we are bridging the gap between the virtual world and reality: Instagram has become an extension of our personalities, Snapchat allows you to be a part of someone else's life while never actually there, while Facebook reigns supreme as the ultimate digital stage, showcasing our every move for all to see.\nAnd while social media has many positive aspects, there are unfortunately many negative ones as well. This is exactly what Nerve, the summer's hottest new movie, is all about:\nThe movie revolves around high school senior Vee Delmanico (Emma Roberts) who's had it with living life on the sidelines. She is persuaded by her friends to join the popular online game Nerve, which asks users to compete in various dares.\nVee decides to sign up for a seemingly harmless dare, but quickly finds herself caught up in the adrenaline-fueled thrill along with a mysterious stranger (Dave Franco). Things take a sinister turn with increasingly dangerous dares, leading her into a high-stakes finale that will determine her entire future.\nSounds pretty intense right? Just wait till you watch the trailer.\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIUSEw9YVPM\nAs if you needed any more incentive than watching hotties Roberts and Franco run around in their underwear, what's cool about this movie is that it actually manages to strike a nerve, paralleling a lot of what we see today.\nWhere does the imaginary end and reality begin in the fickle world of social media? Should you create a manufactured persona in order to please the masses? Nerve seems to hint that not only is putting your life on display risky, it feeds the dangerous addictions of all the "Watchers" out there, constantly raising the stakes of exhibitionism, and pushing us far beyond our boundaries with little concern for the repercussions.\nSo as you scroll through your feeds, like your friend's status, and post a picture of what you did last night, just remember, you never know who's watching...\nCheck out Nerve in theaters July 27.
