6 Canadian Celebs Who Killed It At The Met Gala Last Night
Representing Canadians everywhere on the red carpet!
Whether you're a pop culture junkie or a fashion fiend, the first Monday in May probably has a different meaning to you than it does to other people. In the glamorous world of celebrities, yesterday was a HUGE day - it was the 2019 Met Gala, and this year's theme had audiences expecting major looks. Of course, the Met Gala always takes places in New York City, but that doesn't mean Canadians don't attend too! Here are the six best Canadian celebrity Met Gala looks.
In case you weren't sure, this year's theme is "Camp: Notes on Fashion", which seems pretty complex until you break it down. Essentially, audiences could expect extremely extravagant, dramatic, and even theatrical looks from their favourite celebrities, and boy, did they deliver:
After his suave burgundy suit at last year's Met Gala, people were expecting BIG things from Shawn Mendes this year. Although his outfit wasn't quite as memorable as many other men in attendance, he still rocked it. He wore Yves Saint Laurent, with some gold streaks in his hair to finish the look, which he admitted felt a little crazy for him.
Celine's Oscar de la Renta dress was definitely a look to be remembered at this year's Met Gala. The gown was inspired by Judy Garland, Hedy Lamarr, and Lana Turner in the film Ziegfield Girl, although Dion admitted that when she first heard the theme, she was under the impression she'd be strutting down the runway in camping gear.
Not only did Nina get to rock a Zac Posen x GE Additive x Protolabs clear bustier last night, but she also had one hell of a glam squad, including Charlotte Tilbury and Chris McMillan. She talked a lot about how important it is for the glam and the dress to work together cohesively, and we think she and her team NAILED this year's theme.
When posting her looks on Instagram, Winnie shared that her outfit for the night was "a tribute to [her] beloved Caribbean Carnival". The gorgeous gold look came thanks to Tommy Hilfiger and stylist Anna Trevelyan. Harlow said that she wanted to bring sexy and theatrical to the red carpet while still maintaining her glamour and poise.
Last night was Alessia's first time at the Met Gala, but based on her confidence alone you'd never guess it. She paired a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown with some Nike sneakers (because comfort is key, even at the Met Gala), and some stunning Harry Koltar earrings.
Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh also made an appearance at the gala last night, wearing a beautiful and flowy Moschino gown. She said her outfit is inspired by a lily flower, after her first name. Singh also gave a shoutout to her hometown of Scarborough on the carpet last night, letting us Canadians know that she came to represent.
