Although celebrities often find themselves facing criticism and being involved in scandals, it's not often that a scandal so major that it ends a career comes around. Usually, it takes some pretty serious allegations for a person's reputation to be totally ruined, and in Jacob Hoggard's case, that's exactly what happened. Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard returns to Toronto for sexual assault court date.

Today, Friday, August 23, the singer made the trip to Toronto for a scheduled court date regarding his case. Hoggard had a preliminary hearing earlier this summer to determine whether or not his case would be going to court. It was determined that he would stand trial after pleading not guilty to all charges.

The charges Hoggard is facing include two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm and one count of sexual interference. The incidents took place back in 2016, and involve a woman, and a young girl under the age of 16.

Word of the allegations first went viral in 2018, when Twitter users went public with stories of trauma and abuse they had endured during interactions with Hoggard. The singer was arrested in the summer of 2018, although he denied engaging in non-consensual sexual behaviour.

However, Hoggard did admit to acting in a way that objectifies women on Twitter last year. He sent out a tweet reading, "I understand the significant harm that is caused not only to the women I interacted with but to all women who are degraded by this type of behaviour. I have been careless and indifferent and I have no excuse. For this, I am truly sorry.”

After the allegations surfaced, Hedley began an indefinite hiatus. The band's last show was in Kelowna, B.C. on March 23, 2018. They have since been dropped by their management, blacklisted by an abundance of radio stations, and renounced by other artists in the industry.

A trial date has yet to be set for Hoggard but is likely to be released over the coming months.
