Throughout the past week, plenty of Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich breakup rumours have been swirling around on the internet. The couple has been married for two years now, but after Hough was spotted without her engagement ring, fans began to speculate that the relationship had taken a turn for the worst.

According to People Magazine, the speculation isn't entirely off and multiple sources have confirmed to the outlet that Laich and Hough have been having marital issues for months now.

"She’s very independent and a free spirit, and that’s been tough for Brooks and their marriage," one source told People.

According to another insider, the couple isn't quite ready to call it quits just because they've been on the outs lately.

"It seems they are not giving up, but also not talking about it. They want to do this their way. They don’t want to discuss their marriage. They have been having problems, but many people do," the second source explained to People.

Fans first noticed that the Dancing with the Stars alumn was without her ring when she posted a video to Instagram of her decorating a Christmas tree, and again when she hosted NBC's New Year's Eve.

Speculation of a breakup only increased when Laich made a cryptic Instagram post about changes coming in the new year.

In the post, the Canadian former NHL player talked a lot about being "boundless" and embracing his true inner self in 2020, regardless of how others perceive him.

"In 2020 I look forward to releasing old identities, and stepping into a new chapter in my life. I find myself wanting to officially say the words 'I retire' from professional hockey, instead of vehemently resisting it as I have been for the last 2 years. I feel a new stage of life calling me, and though I don’t exactly know what it is yet, it feels right, and exciting!", he wrote earlier this week.

The last time Laich posted a photo with his wife was in November of 2019, and Hough's Instagram feed is clear of her husband for months before that.

Neither partner has commented on any of the rumours as of yet, and an insider source told People that they likely won't comment on the situation publically for the time being.
