Canadian icons stick together! Earlier this year, word of Justin Bieber’s Lyme disease diagnosis took the world by storm. The singer has since received plenty of support from his fans, including Avril Lavigne, who has also been diagnosed.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “Head Above Water” singer revealed that she reached out to her fellow Canadian after he shared his story.

“I just reached out like, 'Yo, here for you if you need any advice. I can share my knowledge with you,’” the 35-year-old said. "He was appreciative of that, but I think it seems like he is doing well. He put out new music and he had a tour, also."

In a Billboard interview, Lavigne shared that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2015, and at that time, she had “accepted that [she] was dying.”

“And I felt in that moment like I was underwater and drowning, and I was trying to come up to gasp for air. And literally under my breath, I was like, ‘God, help me keep my head above the water.’”

The “Sk8r Boi” singer told Entertainment Tonight that she considers Bieber to be a “warrior” and that her struggle with the autoimmune disease is what inspired her latest music.

“He is also a warrior overcoming Lyme and that was the whole inspiration behind my song, ‘Warrior,’” she said.

“‘Warrior' and ‘Head Above Water’ were the two first songs I wrote for this album because I was freshly coming out of fighting Lyme disease, so naturally that was what was on my heart. I love that I get to bring this out now and have it have a whole new meaning.”

Bieber has also been very candid about his ongoing battle with Lyme. Earlier this year he teamed up with YouTube to release a new docu-series called Justin Bieber: Seasons, in which he revealed why he stepped away from the spotlight for several years.

"It might not seem hard for some people to just get out of bed in the morning, but it's been really hard for me to just get out of my bed," the 25-year-old shared in the fifth episode of his online show.

The “Yummy” singer has made an impressive comeback over the last few months with the release of his first album since 2015, Changes, and a North American tour that has since been postponed. Here’s to hoping Bieber is able to get back on the road soon!
