The world erupted with criticismespecially on social media, after it came out that Scarlett Johansson would be playing a transgendered character in an upcoming movie called Rub & Tug.

But not Scarlett has announced that she is dropping out of the movie altogether and citing ethical reasons for her decision.

Scarlett made the announcement in a statement saying “In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project. Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive."

This decision is a complete 180 flip from earlier in the week when Scarlett's rep responded to criticism saying  “Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman's reps for comment.”

All those actors have played transgendered roles before and received awards and a lot of praise for doing so, making Scarlett's original response pretty firey.

Rub & Tug follows the true story of Tex Gill who transitions from male to female while becoming a major crime leader in Pittsburg.
