Shawn Mendes Revealed Who His Canadian Role Model Is In Recent Rolling Stone Interview
Canada has been looking at Shawn Mendes proudly for the past five years because he is literally the cutest human ever. Not only does he have good looks, he has the voice of an angel and has spoken on important social issues in the past.
Mendes rose to fame after posting a series of Vines back in 2013. The singer is originally from Pickering, Ontario and recently spoke to Rolling Stone about all things Canadian.
During the interview with Rolling Stone, it was mentioned that a lot of talented artists come from Canada despite us having a significantly smaller population than the United States. Mendes accredited our super long winters to our creativity.
He said because we are forced to stay inside "that we get very inside our heads and very inside our emotions. We get in touch with our emotions better, and therefore we are able to put it on paper better." That was proven when he made it on to Times list of The World's 100 Most Influential People earlier this year.
Mendes also spoke about being compared to fellow Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber. He said that it's actually a delight when people make the comparison.
"One thing people may not know about me is how much I look up to Bieber. I don’t think I’ve ever truly told him he was my main inspiration for what I wanted to do. I learned every one of his songs by heart."
Mendes, who has now played for the Queen and Elton John, also got quizzed on his Canadian music taste. When asked his preference of Canadian rock bands Rush or The Tragically Hip, Mendes favourited for the ladder.
He explained himself expecting some backlash, "No matter what I say, I’m gonna get backlash, but I would say the Tragically Hip." To be fair, he also discredited himself saying that he was too young to comment.
One thing is for sure, Mendes is among the ranks of crazy talented Canadians and this musician is definitely proud of this roots.
