Lilly Singh announced that she no longer identifies with her nickname "Superwoman" after nine years.\nThe world has known Toronto native Lilly Singh as Superwoman since she posted her first Youtube video nine years ago. My name is @Lilly." After showing off her new Instagram handle she continues with the story of how and why she chose the original name Superwoman;\n'When prompted to choose a username I instinctively typed Superwoman because it had been my MSN messenger screen name (shoutouts millennials). Based on a song by Lil Mo and Fabulous, I used to call myself Superwoman growing up because like any kid I wanted so badly to deal with life’s obstacles like a hero."\nView this post on Instagram Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is @Lilly. ••••••• Nine years ago I decided to make a YouTube channel and thought nothing of it. I didn’t think it would alter my life path, turn into a career and to be honest I didn’t even think I’d upload more than five videos. When prompted to choose a username I instinctively typed Superwoman because it had been my MSN messenger screen name (shoutouts millennials). Based on a song by Lil Mo and Fabulous, I used to call myself Superwoman growing up because like any kid I wanted so badly to deal with life’s obstacles like a hero. As I grew up, I held on to this belief that everyone could be their own superhero. Until this day I truly believe that we have all the tools we need to be our own saving grace. It’s been heartwarming and empowering to hear people address me as Superwoman, a name I worked so hard to live up to. But today as I type this, as the person I’ve grown into, I feel even more empowered by the name Lilly. Lilly has become an even bigger hero than Superwoman on this journey through my life. Lilly encompasses everything it took to get to where I am... and it’s a place I’m proud to be. And so at this time, it feels right to give thanks to the moniker Superwoman and to lay the cape to rest. Today my biggest and best super powers lay within Lilly and thus Lilly I shall be. Aka new handle is @Lilly. Wooop! Woop! Holla atcha girlllll 💃🏽💪🏽❤️ A post shared by Lilly Singh (@lilly) on Aug 13, 2019 at 11:04am PDT\nShe finishes off the post by saying its been "heartwarming and empowering" to hear people call her Superwoman because of how hard she tried to live up to the name. But she now believes that "Lilly has become an even bigger hero than Superwoman" and it's time to "lay the cape to rest."\nThis announcement comes just after Singh started posting her day to day life prepping for her new NBC show Little Late With Lilly.\nView this post on Instagram Having a blast in my writers room and also realizing I need to chill with the hand gestures. It’s been 10 years since I’ve had a job that requires a regimented schedule and tbh it’s a nice refreshing change. We’re building y’all. Everything from scripts to guests to set design... ya girl is building. September 16th. Productivity lives here. 📝🔨 #LateWithLilly A post shared by Lilly Singh (@lilly) on Aug 12, 2019 at 5:02pm PDT\nLuckily for Lilly, her fans have always been supportive and are continuing to support her on her new journey as just Lilly Singh. But they are questioning whether or not her Youtube channel will also be switched over from iiSuperwomanii.\nWe can't wait to see where this new journey takes our newest superhero, Lilly Singh!
