It's no surprise to anyone that the entertainment industry can be a lot of pressure, especially when it comes to having a good body. Whether you're aiming for a six-pack or thin thighs, it's enough to drive anyone crazy.

In 2018 everyone talks about body positivity, including stars like Lili Reinhardt and Camila Mendes, known for playing Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge from the hit show Riverdale. Yet, Twitter recently dug up some old tweets from their co-star Charles Melton, where he made numerous jokes about overweight people.

Melton, who is known for taking over the role of Reggie Mantle, is quite physically fit himself and sports a six-pack on Instagram. The tweets date from 2012, when Melton was not publically known, but are mostly poking fun at people who are overweight.

A lot of his tweets centred around women's bodies, including one tweet that read "big boobs don't count if you're fat." Another described women in yoga pants as a privilege, not a right. Melton accompanied some of these tweets with hashtags like #fact and #getYourChunkyAssonTheTreadMill.

Fans did not react well to the tweets, calling out the star for fat-shaming and being "trash", but other fans defended his actions as the tweets are six years old.  Melton issued a statement to the DailyMail apologizing for what he said in 2012, saying that this was an opportunity to grow.

"I'm truly sorry for making inconsiderate comments several years ago and apologize to anyone I hurt," he said. "What I posted and said was immature, offensive and inappropriate. I am ashamed of how I acted and there is no excuse for that behaviour. I’m striving to do better and will use this experience to grow, helping others to understand how these types of statements are completely unacceptable."

Maybe Melton and Reggie have more in common than we thought but let's hope this star can prove that he has changed. Maybe his co-stars can teach him about body positivity?
