The Royal Family Is About To Have Another Wedding
This Royal Wedding is actually making history!
Remember last month when there was the massive royal wedding that you couldn’t escape the photos of on social media even if you wanted to?
Well the royal family will be throwing another one for the Queen's cousin, perhaps not as high profile but probably more important because it’s the first of its kind.
That’s because the Queen’s cousin is gay and this will be the first same-sex marriage in British royal history.
The Queen’s cousin is named Lord Ivar Mountbatten, who first made history when he announced back in 2016 that he was gay, becoming the first person connected to the royal family ever to do so.
Soon after that he announced that he was in a relationship with a man named James Coyle, who he will be marrying during the summer.
To make matters a little bit confusing here this won’t be Lord Mountbatten’s first wedding.
He was married to a woman named Penelope Anne Vere Thompson for nearly 20 years, and they have 3 children together.
But if you think his now ex-wife is upset about the circumstances you bet wrong. In fact she’ll be walking him down the aisle at the wedding.
“It makes me feel quite emotional. I’m really very touched,” she said about being the one who gives her ex-husband away.
Unfortunately for Lord Mountbatten much of the royal family won’t be able to attend the wedding as their schedules are booked months in advance, but he says everyone has been nothing but supportive of him.
“They adore James. Everyone adores him,” Lord Mountbatten says.
So congratulations to Lord Mountbatten and James Coyle.
