This Canadian Celebrity Was Voted The Greatest Of All Time
This G.O.A.T. comedian and all around great actor is proudly Canadian.
The results are in, and the greatest comedy actor of all time is Canadian.
The man that filled our childhoods with hilarity his highly energetic slapstick performances is officially history's #1 comedy actor. And that man is - of course - none other than Jim Carrey.
If you were born in the '90s (or before), you'll know 90% of the movies you grew up with starred the 56-year-old Newmarket native: Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, The Truman Show, Liar Liar, and about a dozen more.
He broke through the ranks of the LA stand up circuit before landing his first big role as Ace Ventura in 1993. The film was one of the surprise hits of the decade, launching him into superstardom and leading to offers for roles like the next Batman villain and a creepy cable guy in a Ben Stiller movie.
After that, he dreamt big, writing himself a cheque for $10 million for ‘acting services rendered’, post-dating it 10 years and made it come true.
In an interview with W Magazine, Carrey got a little deeper on his method acting and his views on life, saying: "It was about immersing myself in a character or a couple of characters so deeply that I realised that myself, Jim Carrey, was a character as well and something I could push aside at will. So once you know that, you go, ‘Who am I?'
"We're a bunch of ideas cobbled together to look like a form. There's a body and there's a mind, but the body is part of the field of consciousness, just dancing for itself and it's no different than a plant or a chair or your phone—it's all one thing. Because we are sentient, there's a consciousness, and we have to deal with this thing we create, like a fortress of ideas around it.
So we say, ‘This is my name and this is my heritage and this is my nationality and here's my hockey team and these are all of the things that I am'. That's the mistake."
He's played roles as diverse as the slapstick comedy of his early days to heartbreakers like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
So let's be honest, the award fits him llllike a glove.
