For those people eagerly waiting to see comedian John Mulaney's Toronto show, the last few months have probably felt unnervingly like purgatory. First, the Saturday Night Live alumnus' Just For Laughs Festival spot in September was pushed back. Then, the 6ix weather got in the way. Now, it's Lorne Michaels' fault, not that Mulaney would dare blame his former boss.\nMulaney posted on his social media on Thursday, February 6, to regretfully announce he has had to rearrange his performance yet again. That makes three postponements so far.\nThe show, most recently slated for February 28, has been pushed back as Mulaney, stand-up veteran and creator and star of Netflix's Sack Lunch Bunch, has been tapped to host SNL for a third time.\nOriginal ticket-holders may feel they have the right to be pissed. Three postponements is admittedly a bit much.\nBut the way in which Mulaney announced the latest rescheduling was at least pretty creative.\nAlongside a photo of 75-year-old Canadian exec's note, Mulaney wrote: "A letter from Lorne Michaels to the people of Toronto. I am terribly sorry to move the show again. It is now rescheduled for April 10. I will be there no matter what. I love you Toronto. Also, I’m afraid of Lorne so I do what he says."\nView this post on Instagram A letter from Lorne Michaels to the people of Toronto. Please read and understand I am terribly sorry to move the show again. It is now rescheduled for April 10 and I will be there no matter what. I love you Toronto I hope you know that I won’t let you down again. Also I’m afraid of Lorne so I do what he says. A post shared by John Mulaney (@johnmulaney) on Feb 6, 2020 at 12:50pm PST\nBeginning his letter with "my fellow Canadians," Michaels, who is often credited with carrying a fearsome reputation, writes: "I think considering the state of affairs that this country is in, the need for John is greater in New York right now.\n"John was fully prepared for Toronto and feels deep regret to have to postpone for a third time, but he was drafted by SNL. Yes, we still have the draft here.\n"He is simply doing his duty, and there is nothing more Canadian than that. My apologies."\nAs might be imagined after three instances and six months of delays, Mulaney's fans in Toronto weren't particularly thrilled with the news. Let us tell you, there was a lot of negative social reaction in the immediate aftermath of the announcement.\nOthers, though, just couldn't get over how much Michaels' note (and Mulaney's sheepish sharing of it) reminded them of getting hold of that elusive doctor's note to skip gym class back in the day.\nJohn Mulaney reschedules his Toronto show for the 3rd time and gave us a note from Lorne Michaels like he was skipping school 😂 https://t.co/4jfA4p23Os— Jason Aguiar (@JasonAguiar) February 6, 2020\nIn my head I’m picturing John Mulaney saying yes but only if you write a personal letter to the people of Toronto https://t.co/R3riHsvBS0— Sonja 🇭🇷 (@TheSonji) February 6, 2020\njohn mulaney just got his dad to call the school office and say that he's sick— Kevin Fabian (@RealKFab) February 6, 2020\nJust like grammar school: John @Mulaney got Lorne Michaels to write a note to Toronto excusing him from a gig so he can host @nbcsnl. https://t.co/qMwF1IgHM9— Jason Cochran (@JasCochran) February 6, 2020\nI like that @mulaney has to get what's essentially a doctor's note from Lorne so he could reschedule his Toronto show again. https://t.co/ter5cVDSff— Dan Barra-Berger (dot com!)
