What a virtue!
The iconic Canadian couple are known worldwide for their abilities on the ice, but their strongest muscles might be in their hearts. Tessa Virtue and Morgan Rielly just bought Vancouver nurses thousands of lunches for all their work. Great timing too, because it was right at the start of National Nursing Week!
The Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) Foundation told Narcity the power couple donated 1,070 lunches to health care workers on Monday, May 11.
Meals were sent to health care workers across the North Shore in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. It was the largest food donation the hospital has recieved during the pandemic.
For LGH nurse Donna Dg Montmeyer, the donation was more than a free meal — it made her feel seen.
"Receiving free foodie makes me and appreciated being healthcare worker," she wrote to Narcity.
Montmeyer said the meals contained a sub sandwich, an apple, and a cookie. They were prepared by Earls Amberside in Vancouver, the LGH Foundation said.
"We are so grateful tofor their generous gift that meant so much to our hard-working staff at the hospital and throughout the community," said Louise Campbell, vice president of LGH Foundation.
"By demonstrating their appreciation, they brought lots of smiles to lots of faces."
"Tessa and I are thrilled to be able to provide a free lunch to the staff at Lions Gate Hospital and North Shore community health offices," wrote Morgan Rielly and Tessa Virtue in a statement.
"They have done so much for our community during this crisis and we wanted to show our appreciation."
Tons of posts popped up on social media after the news broke, thanking the couple for their donation.
"Thank YOU for your courage, expertise, reassurance, and competence during these difficult times," Virtue replied to a post on Twitter. "We are so grateful for your continued hard work!"
between figure skating legend Virtue and the Maple Leafs defenceman Rielly was maybe Canada's best kept secret until the pandemic rolled around.
But now that the truth is out, the Canadian dream couple is out to support our health care heroes when they need it most.
