With March having just begun, Haligonians are looking for something – anything! – to pull them through the final bleak month of winter.  Fortunately, the St. Paddy’s Day gods have smiled upon us, for this year the legendary Irish holiday beloved by Canadians nation wide falls on a Friday.

Yes, you read that sentence correctly!!  Friday, March 17th 2017 will mark the beginning of what is sure to be a wild weekend, full of green beer and people talking about their distant Irish heritage.  Below we’ve put together a list of all the spots in Halifax that will be putting on unreal St. Paddy’s Celebrations you can’t be miss.


1. Halifax Saint Patrick’s Day Parade 2017

This year will mark the 10th anniversary of Halifax’s annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, which will take place March 12th starting at 1pm.  Kick off St. Paddy’s with a walk along Lower Water Street and through Irishtown to finish at the Historic Properties.


2. GroundSwell Music Festival

Celebrate St. Paddy’s at this unreal Celtic Music Festival, taking place in the HRM from March 16th to the 18th.  Catch headliners Heather Rankin, The Stanfields, Ria Mae and more at The Spatz Theatre and Olympic Hall.


3. The Lower Deck

Cover will only be $5 at the lower deck on March 17th for guests arriving before 5:30pm, so be sure to get there early because it’s going to be packed for sure!  Enjoy some cheap beer and live music from Paul Lamb & Ron Hynes, DJ Billy G and Shaydid.


4. Durty Nelly’s

Swing by Durty Nelly’s when they open at 7am on March 17th and score a free breakfast! Irish brunch will be served all day, in addition to some great live music - no cover required.


5. Stayner’s Wharf

Catch the unique deep brass sounds of The Roving Steins Oompah Band at Stayner’s Wharf on March 17th as they play along to your St. Paddy’s Day festivities.


6. Oasis Pub

The Strawmen will be providing live musical entertainment on March 17th at Oasis starting around 7pm for a $5 cover fee.  The bar will be open at 10am, with pitchers going for only $10, so get a head start on your day at Oasis!


7. Floodland at The Seahorse

Friday, March 17th Floodland will take the stage at The Seahorse to bring you some St. Paddy’s Day Beatles covers, with a massive group of special guests from all over the HRM.  Tickets are only $7 or $10, but try and pick one up in advance here as it will probably be a busy night!

8. North Woodside Community Centre

For the price of only $7.50, head over to the North Woodside Community Centre in Dartmouth for an evening of snacks, door prizes, Irish dancing and live music.


9. The Carleton

The Carleton is known for hosting some of the best live music in Halifax, and St. Paddy’s day will be no exception.  Drop by March 17th for a couple beers, and jam out with Party Boots at 10pm.


10. The Old Triangle Alehouse

Get the full Paddy’s Day experience at one of Halifax’s most popular traditional Irish Pubs, with a performance from Rowdy Dow at 8:30 on March 17th.


11. Split Crow

Even though it’s not a Sunday Split Crow is still a sweet place to be this year on St. Paddys.  The Donnybrooks will be playing at 9:30pm to a rowdy crowd, get there early to be amongst them!


12. The Halifax Alehouse

At 11pm catch the Tristan Legg Band as they take the stage to celebrate St. Paddy’s with all those partying at The Halifax Alehouse.
