The big day is fast approaching, and it's time to get a date night plan in order!  Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, so plan accordingly with a romantic weekend event or dinner and a show on the night of.

For those scrambling to wow their special someone with an uber romantic plan come February 14th, or those single homies who are just trying to have a good time and forget about their relationship status (or lack thereof), below we’ve listed a variety of ideas that will be certain to please.

1. Savour Food & Wine Festival

Date: February 9th

Fee: $55

Pick up your tickets ASAP to this evening of indulgence hosted at The Prince George Hotel in downtown Halifax on Market Street.  Sample artisanal cheese, chocolates and fine wine from all over the world, perfectly paired for guests by NSCC Culinary Arts Students.

2. Luna Flamenca Valentine Show

Date: February 10th

Fees: $25

Swing by the Dalhousie University Club Friday, February 10th at 8pm and take in a Flamenca ensemble put on by the skilled dancers at Falmenca en Rouge.  Enjoy a night of dancing, instrumental work and moon-inspired poetry by Spain’s Federico Garcia Lorca.

3. Lovers & Friends Valentine’s Dance Party

Date: February 10th

Fee: $5 before 12am

Dance the night away with DJ RS Smooth and DEE at this Company House event hosted by Boogieman J.  Whether you’ve got a date on your arm or you’re looking to meet someone special, this is a fun low-key way to spend your Friday night.

4. Analog Love

Date: February 11th

Fee: $5, or free for those over 18

If you didn’t get enough dancing in on Friday, head to this all-ages event hosted by DJ Negi Posi and DJ R.A.W.C at RadStorm on Almon Street.  Guests are encouraged to bring their favourite CD’s, cassettes and records along with them to keep this analog dance party going all night long.

5. Hearts and Crafts

Date: February 11th

Fee: Free!

Bring the family to Chapters in Dartmouth at 11am on Saturday, February 11th for this free Valentine’s Day arts and crafts event.  Use a variety of materials provided by Indigo’s exclusive Kids Made Modern Smarts & Crafts Case to create the perfect gift for your Valentine this year.

6. Romeo and Juliet: A Drink Along

Date: February 13th

Fee: Pay what you can

Stop by the Bus Stop Theatre on the day before Valentine’s and drink along to a one-hour rendition of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet performed by a small cast of four talented actors.  Reserve a ticket online here and pay what you can, with all proceeds going towards the Theatre.

7. Singles Party

Date: February 14th

Fee: Free!

If you plan on spending Valentine’s Day alone again cheer up with a couple glasses of wine at Durty Nelly’s Singles Mixer, at 8pm on Tuesday the 14th.  Who knows, maybe you’ll meet someone cool over appetisers at this fun, inclusive event!

8. Chocolate Workshop

Date: February 14th

Fee: $25

Bring your Valentine’s date to The Grainery Food Co-op on Agricola Street for a chance to learn the process of making real raw chocolates just like the Mayans did using all natural ingredients.  Skip the standard box of Shopper’s Drug Mart chocolates and learn this artisanal skill from nutritionist Silvia Revenco, along with all the nutritional benefits that go along with it.

9. Valentine’s Day Couples Night Out

Date: February 14th

Fee: $175

Spend Valentine’s Day in style at the Halifax Marriott Hotel by enjoying a night of wining, dining, dancing and games.  Enjoy the red carpet photo booth, and stay overnight at the Marriott for 20% off the price of your ticket!

10. Valentine’s Day with Edith Piaf, by Ariana Nasr

Date: February 14th

Fee: $20

Spend your Valentine’s evening at The Carleton this year, and let Montreal singer Ariana Nasr serenade you and your significant other with the romantic tunes of Edith Piaf during this special themed event.

11. Pop-Up Love Party

Date: February 16th - 19th

Fee: $25

Head over to Dartmouth and catch a Valentine’s performance from Zuppa Theatre at the Battery Park Beer Bar and Eatery, where their troop will be reimagining Plato’s Symposium in an effort to define love, “with all its plagues and pleasures.” Be sure to grab a themed dinner at the show as well, made especially by Dartmouth-born, Michelin-starred chef Daniel Burns.

12. Valentine’s at Yuk Yuk’s

Date: February 16th – 18th  

Fee: $20

Keep your date laughing this year at the Yuk Yuk’s Valentine’s Day Special, hosted on Hollis Street beneath The Westin Hotel from February 16th to the 18th.  Sparkling wine and chocolates are included in the price of your ticket, and for only fifty bucks more you can enjoy a full meal!

13. The Ultimate Valentine Weekend

Date: Feb 17th – 19th

Fee: $410
