Anyone who knows me knows that I love working out. It's my stress reliever, it makes me feel confident and it takes away my anxiety and keeps my worries at bay. Without it, I really don't know who I am. So I decided to figure that out for a week.

I work out about 4-6 days a week, depending on my plans or if I have enough energy at the end of the day. On an average week, it's about 5 days a week and I crave it. Ever since starting Kayla Itsines' BBG workout program, I've stuck to it and noticed a tremendous difference in every aspect of my life. I can't remember the exact date that I started it, but it changed my life. 

Without that program, I'm not sure I would have stuck to anything. That's why I believe you need to find a program or a workout you love in order to see the results you want. However, after doing Kayla's program for 18 weeks straight, I decided to give my body a break and see how much it actually helps me. 

Even though the break was just a week, I noticed so many differences. Especially in my mood, which I had a feeling would happen. A lot of people think working out makes you tired, but it's actually the opposite. I had so much energy while working out, and during the week I wasn't exercising I was exhausted the entire time. After a good 7 hours of sleep, by 12 I was ready for a nap. 

I've talked about how working out helped cure my headachesand guess what came back while taking a break? There is no coincidence with that, because they went away as soon as I got into a routine and came back when I stopped it cold turkey. 

My anxiety also got way worse once I stopped working out. A week was enough to bring it back and make me wonder what was wrong, when nothing was. However once you stop working out your body kind of freaks out. Endorphins are addicting, let me tell you. I found myself worrying about things I would normally never worry about. Oh, and I was hungry way more than usual which I didn't expect. 

Of course, I didn't lose all my muscle. I don't think I lost any, even though I was pretty much sedentary the entire week. But it's almost impossible to lose all your muscle or even a little progress over a 7 day break. It's actually recommended every 3-4 months to take a break from exercising to give your body time to really recover. 

I came to realize without exercise I am moody, I get terrible headaches and my laziness is at an all time high. Exercising is the one thing that I can go to at anytime of the day and no matter what feel I'll amazing afterwards. Without that feeling, I realized I don't want to know what I'm like without exercising for any longer. If it makes me feel good, then why bother?

So no, I didn't lose all my muscle, I didn't turn into flubber but I did feel like I was going to lose my mind at some things that would normally never bug me. I also feel way more rested all the time when I work out. I get to work out again tonight after this little test and I could not be more excited. There were some days where I thought, "Fuck it, I'm just gonna work out." I craved it the entire week. But I knew my body needed the rest, even though my mind and emotional state thought otherwise. 

So, from the girl who is obsessed with working out, taking breaks is great for you but I would not suggest going longer than a week unless you have an injury or an illness. This is why rest days are so important so you don't burn out. However, I also suggest not working out just for the changes in your body, but for all the reasons I mentioned above. Your mind, body and soul can benefit from sweating!
