"We are all programmed to believe that if a guy acts like a total jerk that means he likes you." - He's Just Not That Into You

These days, it's pretty hard to tell if a guy likes you or not. The term 'f*ck boy' gets thrown around a lot while describing guys who just act like they couldn't care less about you. However, whoever it is that isn't treating you right doesn't deserve you. It all comes down to who really values your time and who wants to be a part of your life. Most girls in Ottawa these days meet guys at bars in the Byward Market, get their number, text or hang out a few times, and then you realize you have nothing in common. It happens to the best of us.

There's nothing wrong with a little flirting and having what our generation calls a 'thing' with a guy. But at some point, you really start to like someone and you have no idea if the feelings are mutual or not. If a guy likes you and wants to be with you, he will make it happen. But in case you're still not sure, here are 10 sure signs your Ottawa guy is really into you:

1. He texts you before he goes out to a bar in the Byward Market with his friends.

Whether it's a good night text, or a 'I'll call you when I get home' text, no guy would do this if they weren't into you. Better yet, if he's texting you while at the bar with his friends then you've got yourself a keeper.

2. He wants to show you off in any way he can.

He insists on posting a picture on Instagram with you skating on The Rideau Canal just so everyone can see you're his. He's also so excited to bring you home to Mom because he's proud that he landed you.

3. He believes in you more than you do.

Studying for exams can be stressful, but your man believes you'll ace them even if you haven't been to one of your uOttawa classes this semester. He tells you everything you want to hear, but actually means it because he thinks you're amazing.

4. He makes your bad mood better instead of worse.

He can just tell you're in a bad mood, and surprises you with SuzyQ Doughtnuts. He also never assumes it's because it's that time of the month. Never assume that.

5. He's persistent when it comes to making plans with you.

But not pushy, never pushy. Even though you said you would be fine with a regular movie, he said he wanted to treat you and take you to the VIP Cineplex Theatre in Lansdowne. He doesn't have to, but he wants to.

6. He'll talk with you about anything.

You're a Sens fan and he's a Leafs fan, but he'll still keep quiet about your team losing. A little competition never hurt anybody, but he'd rather not piss you off. He also wants to hear about the personal stuff, because he knows that made you who you are.

 7. He'll do things with you that don't really interest him.

But he does it for you. Like going shopping at the Rideau Centre on a Saturday during the holidays, or watching The Notebook with you while you bawl your eyes out. He knows these are your favourite things, and wants to enjoy them with you.

8. He wants to get to know your friends.

They say your friends are a reflection of who you are–and it's so true. If your man wants to agreeably join you and your girls for drinks at The Standard for mojitos, don't let him go. Men that admit they love girly drinks don't come around very often.

9. He notices when you wear something different/new.

He pays such close attention to detail when it comes to you, that even getting your hair freshly highlighted comes with a compliment. Or if you come back from shopping with your friends in the Market, he'll notice that all you seem to wear/buy is black. He finds it intriguing.

10. Most importantly, he tells you.

All of the above signs are great ways to tell if your Ottawa guy is into you. However, the best of all is when he isn't afraid to tell you his feelings for you. It just comes naturally, and he'll text you little reminders or say it while cuddling. Every girl wants to be told by the guy they like that the feelings are reciprocated. So if your man is reminding you of that constantly, you've landed a good one.
