Ottawa is a pretty promising city. We have culture, we have Justin Trudeau (most of the time) and we also have some pretty great BeaverTails if you ask me. Ottawa has been named the safest city in Canada in recent years, and whether you're just visiting or are thinking about moving here, there are plenty of reasons why you should.

Even just looking at the Parliament Buildings gives anyone heart eyes, and our summers are hot as f*ck. I'm not going to mention the winters–what winters? It's fine. I've heard a lot of people say that they've thought or are thinking of moving here, but there is a bit of hesitation. If our cold winters are the only reason you won't move here, you've got it all wrong. So here are X reasons you should live in Ottawa for a least a year!

It's a super professional city.

Politics, government, you name it. There is something to be said about a city that is super professional but also still fun. Although we may not have the amazing billboards that other cities do, we know that Ottawa gets down to business very quickly.

It's a small but big city.

You'll be able to meet a lot of people, but also keep your distance if you want. It's a great place to meet people because everyone is super friendly, and you'll never feel alone. Especially on the OC–that place is always packed AF.

Your education is taken seriously here.

Whether you're coming here for school or after school, your education is important while living here. There are lots of opportunities here for jobs, especially since a lot of people come here to work.

The nightlife is not overwhelming and very fun.

If you want to go out somewhere and aren't that great at making decisions, Ottawa is perfect for you. It's not that we don't have any nightlife here, we just keep it simple! Everyone here knows what they like to do, and that's what they do. We know what we like in Ottawa.

The culture here is amazing.

We have so many festivals dedicated to certain ethnicities, and none are forgotten. They're so much fun every single summer and they just keep getting more and more popular. We also have many restaurants that will make you feel like you travelled to another city just for their food, as well as China Town and Little Italy.

This city is full of different people from different parts of Ottawa.

Travelling to Barrhaven from Orleans is even a big change. Everyone who lives in different parts of the city are so different, sometimes it's hard to keep up. All of the different neighbourhoods love where they live, and that's home to them. Sometimes it's hard to keep up but you'll understand if you move here.

A lot of super cool celebrities grew up here.

Matthew Perry, Sandra Oh, Tom Cruise, you name it. Those people made a name for themselves, and it's so cool that they can call Ottawa home. It's hard to spot celebrities here, but it's pretty cool to know that super successful ones grew up here.

Our music scene is very eclectic.

Between Bluesfest, Escapade, CityFolk and Ottawa Jazz Festival, it's hard to keep up. The list of bands at Bluesfest is on point (most of the time), and it's a great way to learn about new artists.

We are definitely not lacking in amazing restaurants.

Whether it's the ByWard Market, downtown in general, or spaced out in the city, our food scene in Ottawa is unreal. We have so many diverse restaurants and one for every occasion. If you want great Italian, Mexican, Asian, Vietnamese food, etc., we have it all.

We have the biggest bus system in the world.

We may be a small city, but we have one of the biggest bus systems in the world. Considering OC Transpo runs basically 24/7 (plus or minus a few hours), we are very lucky that it operates everywhere in the city. This helps us save on gas, car insurance, etc.

If you get tired of the city life, you're not far from nature.

Downtown Ottawa may look like a concrete jungle, but you're never a far drive from nature. Less than an hour drive away from Ottawa is Gatineau Park, which is beautiful all year round. There are hiking trails, waterfalls, abandoned houses, everything you could want! If you need a break from Ottawa, you can catch one without breaking the bank.
